ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    help!!ground cable!!

well i have a xplod amp n a capacitor, so i have the ground cable of the capacitor connected to the corner bottom(i dnt know wats it kalld) of the back seat, but every time i put my back seat up again the... can some just tell me wer can i put my ground cable?

    #2
solid metal, not the seat metal, that ground kinda floats and its not solid.

if there is paint scrape it off.

you can find a nearby bolt you can put it there.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

You don't ground the cap. You wire it in parallel with the power wire.

with my systems, i always grounded with what looked like a huge sheet-metal screw str8 through the floor of the trunk

you mean in series with the power wire.

and what kind of caps you using, everyone i used i grounded

there is a good spot, cause sometimes its not good to drill directly down (some cars the gas tank is there). when you fold down your rear seat, the sides of that area of the opening (oval) that is plastic, u can remove that and then u can shoot a ground in that metal right there. there is even bolts there to use but i usually scrape metal and sheetmetal self tap screws.

Yeah I meant series, my mistake. What I meant was you don't ground the cap to sheet metal. That would be the same as shorting to the battery.

To ground.. You ground the cap.. Pretty simple.. 12v on one side with 12v to the amp.. Ground on the other terminal..Can you read a diagram? Have you ever installed a cap?

Yes I can read diagrams. I said that caps aren't grounded to the chassis because that's what it sounded like he said. Can you clarify what you mean by ground on the other terminal? I'm assuming you mean the terminal on the amp.

Edit: Normally when I hear ground, I think of chassis ground.

                        im confused, ground is ground.

caps are always grounded to the chassis. Find me a pic of one that isnt grounded to the chassis.

you hook a power and a ground wire to the cap the same as you would an amp, a battery, or a lightbulb for that matter. if you have a distribution block you have a wire coming out if the block to the amp and another wire coming out of the block to the cap for power, and the same for ground.

it doesn't matter what it's grounded to as long as it's solid (strut tower bolts are what i always use). Ultimately every ground you can possibly use in the car ends up at the (-)ive battery post.

yes, the capacitor is essentially wired in parallel to the amp. one leg of the capacitor to +12V, the other to ground.

Ok I see it now. I had a little brain fart. I was thinking about a cap being used in a different situation. My bad lol.

                              series! not paralell.

NOpe. some metals arent. lets say it was connected to the frame of the car, but it wasnt welded correctly, or its on sheetmetal. I seen "solid grounds" not work out the best. or the metal that it bonds to is just held in by bolts that have paint on them, not an efficient ground. I always go low to a main start of the chassis. like seatbelt bolts, or things like that. and i dont tare apart something i dont need to.

i had issues before with strut bolt mounting with engine noise, customers would come in cause they did the install. I moved the ground and it was great.

Im not bashing you, just im my experiance the lower the better. Sometimes i get soo anal that i get my meter out, put it to OHMS and then measure the resistance of the ground. GOSH DARN corvettes, dang fiberglass bodies...you know what a pain it is to find a good ground on that car? its fiberglass! DIG DIG DIG and then measure in OHMS and be happy you found it, darn carpet usually is wrapped around everything else.
