ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    8" sub build Box ?

Trying to keep my car OEM looking. I would like some more bass, not much but some. I have a alpine deck alpine mrv500, and a 8" kicker l5.
I plan to put this in the armrest in the back seat, mounted to the rear of the seat.
I Plan on making the box 16hx10wx9.5deep. I plan on making this sealed. Will this box be OK.
I plan to cut the back seat, Put a 16h by 2 feet piece of MDF on the seat cut the hole in it and mount the box to it. Then put a 3/4 rectangle ring with speaker grill fabric stained maroon(my int color).
I plan to build the box this week and install this weekend,

    Any advice would be appreciated.

a 8" L5 Kicker has enough power that you really dont need to build a box for it. I had two kicker cvr 12's mounted on my backseats and i left them open on the trunk side and it pounded when i wanted it to.

But if you really want to put a box on it put a 2" or bigger port on it like a bass tube and it will allow it to breathe better.

A box is not optional, it's mandatory...unless you're doing IB.

That's not how ports work, but the OP should try that for more low end extension.

well ill admit idk much about port tuning, and from the threads if read with your input i'd say you know alot more about it than i do...but what i meant with the sub is like the old setup i had in my first CB, i had two 12" kicker cvr's mounted into the backseat and they used the intire trunk as a box.

and if you could hook me up with a thread or a message to help me better understand how port tuning works, it would be greatly appreciated.

yea if your going to do an 8" doin bass tube style i used to have one of those powered bazooka tubes that was like 50RMS and it gave it just enough thump so that my music would sound even highs and lows wise...

Using a sub that is not designed to be ran in an IB or "free air" environment isn't the best move. The sub will sound like crap from the get go.

And I have only hear one IB sub install that sounded good, but that was due to the fact that the person used a ton of sound deadening and sealed their trunk up so most of the air wasn't being squeezed out when the sub was pounding.

Steve, your plan sounds good to me and just like everyone else has said, add a port, you'll enjoy it that much more.

It's cool. I got most of what you're saying. And congrats, you did an IB install and didn't even know it. But like frootloops said, you have to completely seal off the trunk from the cabin.

easy i took the motors out of my mirrors awhile back and the only thing that is left is the mirror and the mirror frame, then you take out the mirror and glue the dynamat to the inside of the sideview mirror housing.
