    Shaved antenna reception

    hey guys,

my car is going into the shop on monday and i plan on shaving my antenna. I read on here somewhere that someone had it done and they had a deck that still was able to get radio reception. Can anyone tell me what decks would be able to do that? also is there any other way to have reception other than installing one of those hidden ones i've seen on here or is that the only option? thanks guys!

you guys who say your antenna is broken is the part of the antenna that is installed inside still there? possibly giving you continuous reception without the actual antenna sticking up in the air?

92turboaccord - when you shaved your antenna did you rip out the guts inside the trunk or just left it in there?

in the end i will probably get a hidden antenna but will not install it until i get a new head unit. still rockin a tape deck so radio is all i got right now. hahaha. thanks!

Get an interior antenna on ebay. They have one that looks like an alarm antenna and sticks to your front or rear window and plugs right into the stock antenna lead.

Otherwise, you can leave the 'guts' in the trunk and see where that gets you first.

theres no need in sending it to a shop to get it shaved, in your trunk below the spare tire there are 3 plugs, a big one and two smaller ones, one of the smaller ones will wit the hole that is left by tha antenna perfectly. And my Clarion Max675vd picks up perfect without the guts inside too. I just stuck the wire that runs from the radio so the chassis of the car, picks up every station

when i shaved my antenna, i just bought a cheap antenna from oreily's and hid it behind the sub box in my trunk. it still gets good reception, but not quite as good as stock.

Yeah that's how mine is. I believe that when they say "shave" doesn't really mean remove the whole antenna assembly just the outside.

reason my car is goin into the shop is my car was broken into and keyed last week. and insurance is covering the paint job. $300 deductable tho. but i'm getting the antenna shaved, shaving all the emblems in he back and getting all my moldings, skirts and front and rear lips painted as well in the process.

I'm tell the guy to just leave the assembly and see how much reception i get. i just need it to hear the all news traffic station for my morning commute...

I just pushed mine all the way down and pulled the relay for the motor. The guts are still inside and I get the exact same reception I did before.
