    Alpine cde 9846 install help

I just bought a nice new alpine CDE-9846 cd player off ebay for $139. I don't know anything about car audio or audio in general for that matter. I don't feel like paying some audio shop $40 bucks for installation, so I want to do it myself. It has an instruction manual but it says the wiring and installation should be done by experts. I learned some electronics in college a few months ago because I'm learning to become an aviation maintenence Technician, so I know how to do some electrical work, this part shouldn't be too hard for me. Installation is probably going to be my big problem. Any help here would be much appreciated, please contact me and let me know what to do and where to start. Thanks guys, later.

does that 40 come with a dash kit and harness, cause if it does then its worth it.

anyways, first you should search but here

    dash kit
    wire harness

those are the parts you need. once you get the harness then you wire it up color for color, sayingi that your harness in the dash isnt cut.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

Go to best buy and buy yourself a dash installation kit as well as the wiring harness. Take the harness that came with the deck and match the wires up between the two harnesses. Plug both ends in and you're ready to go.

installdr.com - used this site for my first accord stereo install.....super helpful

wiring is easy, there are several options you can go with....buy the harness from bestbuy for like $10 and just match the wires.....i wouldn't recommend soldering as its a pain to disconnect....i just use the smallest electrical connectors and its always worked fine for me. i've done installs in 3 accords so if you have a specific question you can pm me

ps and there are other guys on this site who have done way more than me, so ask them too

buy your dash kit (model: hon-k828) and wire harness (model: 70-1720) at best buy (where i work in the install bay)... ill give you the easiest way to do this install, how i do it at work.

take a small 1/4 in. ratchet with a 8mm deep socket. get a light and look behind your stereo... you will see 2 8mm screws use your ratchet, take them out, there will be 1 on each side.

once you have those out, crawl out from under your dash and sit in your seat, simple grab your deck and pull it out. voila.. your stock is out... there will be a metal bracket in there also, just kinda move it around a lil and pull itll come right out. that method is way easier than taking apart you entire center console and ashtray and all that junk, that way SUCKS!

then open up your dash kit, go to the page about 90-93 accords (page 5 i beleive) and break of the tabs they tell you to break off for our car. wire up your harness... i dont recommend soldering if your not good at it cuz if you do a bad solder on your speaker wires it'll sound like shit. just use butt connectors or crimp caps. zip tie your wires together, tada done with the harness, plug it in to the stock harness. then take the cage for your stereo, put it in the dash kit, bend the tabs out so that its secure. click it in the space where your deck used to be. pull the wire harness and antenna line through. plug them into your deck, click your deck in and your done!

          hope i helped

            Tools you will need
            Phillipshead screwdriver.
            Wire cutters/strippers
            Splice connects.
            8mm Ratchet.
            Stereo installation kit.
            Wire harness.

and a new stereo would help too. :P

            Step one
Disconnect negative battery cable. (black one)

            Step two
Move the passenger/driver seats as far back as they can both go.
Take the phillips head screwdriver, and you will locate 4 screws on the housing around your (in my case) automatic shifter.

There are two screws on each side, remove them all.

            Step three.

Insert your key into your "shift lock" slot on your automatic shifter, move it to N. You will be doing this, to get the housing from around the shifter. Pull the emergency break, so you won't roll away. Remove the ash tray. Now, just lift the housing off. It should come off with no problem.

You should look like this now.

            Step four.

You need to remove the "metal thing" that the ash tray was at.

The three screws that are holding it in place, remove them. Pull it down, but don't go crazy and rip it, because theres a light attached to it for the ash tray. Just let it hang.

            You should look like this.

            Step Five.

If you look up in there, you should see two gold bolts. Thats whats holding that stock stereo in place.

Take that 8mm ratchet, and remove them. (**note** if you don't have an 8mm ratchet handy, you can use your screwdriver.)

            Step Six.

Your stock stereo should just come right out now.

Pull it a little, to disconnect the antenna, and wire harness.

It shouldn't take much effort to get it out.

You should look like this now.

This is where thoes wirecutter/stripper and splice connects come in handy.
If you haven't already wired up the wire harness that goes from your new stereo, to your stock connections....

              do that now.

for me, i matched everything up color to color, worked fine.

Also, take the DIN sleeve off of your new stereo, and fit it into the din and pocket "thing"

Bend the flaps, so the din sleeve is secure.

[b]note** be sure you snap the correct snap ends off of the new pocket, because some you don't need. you should only need two on the top, and two on the bottom.

              Step Seven.

snap that into place, following with your new stereo.
before you get that in, be sure to wire up your new stereo. that's pretty simple. everything goes where it fits.

              should look like this now.

What I did, was connected my battery back real quick just to check if everything was wired up correctly. I suggest you do the same.

              Luckly, mine was.

Bolt it up accordingly, then just do everything you did to get it off in reverse.

Make sure you have no screws left over, because if you do...

              then you've got a problem..

i ended up with two screws left, and they were the gold ones that secured the stereo into the dash. but i left them out, becuase i'm gonna fix that when i install my amp/subs.

              And you're done.

              Finished product.

              i hope it helps.

                  thanks man.

yeah, there is no sticky. i need to talk to deeve or somebody, and try to get them to sticky my DIY post in here. it'd get alot more use than it does in the DIY section. i've quoted my thread more than a few times and posted it in here, i think it'd just be easier for real beginners to get to.

seriously guys taking the whole center console out is suuuuuuch a waste of time, you can get both those gold 8mm from behind the stereo. its a million times easier. maybe next time i do one with a stock deck il ltry to take pics.
