ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Very nice! Be sure to get the transmission checked out. Those had tranny issues. If it hasn't been taken care of, you might be in for some trouble. Otherwise, they're fantastic cars. I'd love one myself (I'd want a coupe... I love the looks. I had a 2002 SE already, and it was nice, but... meh... the leather would have helped!)

I agree with deevergote! The 98-02 V6 auto tranny had issues! One of my friends drives a '00 V6 coupe and that coupe is usually at the shop! But if it was well taken care of it should be fine...the problem is if it was raced!

The '02 SE didnt come with leather seats??? I thought that was one of the reasons they're the "SE"!

Actually, the hard driven trannies lasted longer than the easy driven ones due to the cause of the problem on those.

Make sure you keep the fluids changed and you should be fine. I used to change the fluid in ours every 10-12K or whenever the color would start to get darker, and we never did have a problem with it.

Basically, Honda used the torque converter lockup clutch to help smooth out the shifts, and this resulted in premature wear of the clutch. As the clutch particles would circulate through the tranny, and block some of the orifices, the line pressure would drop, which would cause all of the other clutch packs to wear prematurely, causing more debris in the lines and lower line pressure, which basically creates a feedback cycle of destruction. Since there are no replaceable filters in that tranny, you best defense is to keep that fluid as clean as you can, as it will help remove the debris when you change it.

That is also why driving them hard tended to be better because because under WOT upshifts and harder driving, the clutches didn't slip and wear as much, causing less debris in the lines.

I don't know how familiar you are with motorcycles or ATV's, but Honda basically uses wet clutch packs like those. If you have ever ridden one, you know that wet clutches can engage pretty harshly, which is why Honda resorted to slipping the TC clutch. It softened the shock. But, it primarily softened the shock during slow, smooth shifts, or "easy" driving. Under WOT upshifts etc, it shifted harder and faster for more positive upshits, and relied on timing retardation to smooth the shifts. You can feel this if you drive it really easily versus giving it the stick.

As long as your tranny isn't slipping, and you keep the fluid clean, you should be good. Once it starts slipping, it is probably too late. You can also call Honda and see if it was replaced under warranty, or might be able to carfax it and see.

Also, those engines aren't able to detect premium fuel, so there is no advantage to running premium like there is in the 7th gen an up, which have knock sensors that will advance the timing if you put premium in them.
