ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Suspension before swap ?

Now my i can feel my engine slowly giving out on me even tho i do what i can to keep her strong. I just feel like it might leave me stranded one of these days. Ill keep trying to keep her nice by doing a tune up after oil pan finally goes on.

Now my suspension is complete shit. I can see rust around the part that goes in and out of the shock. My ball joints have no boots (rubber) around them which im sure its suposed to have something covering them. I can feel every single thing on the road. It also fishtails when i try to turn and i hit a couple of holes. Its completely messed up.

I need advice on which i should start investing money in first. I've read most the suspension threads so i know what i want. Time and money wise which one would be easier for me as i am going to use her as a daily driver and i have no back-up car anymore.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

If you think your motor will live long enough I'd say go with suspension first before anything. Even if your motor blew I'd still rather have that than totalling my car and risking my life on questionable suspension, if that's how you feel it is.

Couldn't have said it better myself. If the engine blows, you're stranded. If the suspension gives out, you crash.

Ball joints should be replaced as soon as the boots develop a tear. If you're missing the boots completely, then you've waited FAR too long. I honestly wouldn't even drive that car until you replace the ball joints at the very least!

Wanna see what happens when a ball joint fails? Here:

a motor giving out won't kill you.

suspension failing very well could kill you and possibly anyone around you.

the rear left boots is missing completely and the other ones are kind of torn a bit but they're still there . The fact that they are torn doesn't really make me feel better even tho that rear one is completely missing. I try my best to slow down on places i know have holes or bumps. And i am sorry but the upperball joint boots look torn a bit and the rear one is missing. Is it worst that the uppers are bad or is it worst it the lower ball joints are bad ?

They are all of equal importance, and you will crash if ANY of them fail.
The second the boot gets torn, the grease is able to leak out, and dirt is able to get inside. When that happens, the ball joint can fail. When it fails, it doesn't happen gradually. It will happen suddenly, and it will most likely happen while you're driving at high speeds, or turning. One of those joints could give out at any minute, even if you drive as carefully as you possibly can.

My advice is to not drive that car until those ball joints are all replaced. Anything with a torn or missing boot must be replaced. The entire joint, not just the boot.

Front driver side is completely fucked.

I checked the other ones and they were ok . A bit of rubber out the outside was a bit cut but nothing like this ball joint. That explains that noise i hear everytime the weight of the car is shifted to the front left.

I would inspect it before I do replacement. Suspension parts are known to rest especially when sitting off to the side. Inspect for cracks or anything out of the nrom that would put you in danger and replace it when itis time. Me personally I plan on going back to honda if I can help it to some degree and that is what im going to do when it's time.

All the others aren't much better than that one. Just because there's a boot left on them doesn't mean that boot isn't holding dirty grease, wearing away at the joint. Replace them ALL. Preferably before you even drive the car again. I don't want to hear that you crashed... on here, or worse, on the news.

I'll try not to hit any holes or drive slow like i always do. The previous owner didn't take care of this car at all and i can see that because everything is stock and pretty beat up. She's going to have to give me one more week and ill waste my whole check on ball joints. I wanted a drop before anything but i guess ill have to buy new ball joints again once i do the drop. Thanks for all the advice and i hope you don't hear anywhere that i crashed.

As I said, it doesn't matter if you avoid potholes. Those failing joints are holding up a ton and a half of steel. Do you realize the amount of stress those joints are under when you're just making a casual turn?
Drive it at your own risk... but I STRONGLY urge you to park that car until you have all those ball joints replaced. It is not safe. Not at all. Not for ANY amount of driving.

Yeah deev is right about that. If that balljoint falls off and you are driving once that goes bad your going into a world of hurt. This is dangerous putting everything and everyone at risk.

He's not joking about this. On my previous car, a 1995 Buick Regal, I was taking a right had turn from a stop very slowly (thankfully!) and my lower left ball joint failed; popped completely out of it's socket. Fortunately I was going maybe 2 MPH and it didn't cause any damage to my vehicle or others, but it still scared me and I had to wait nearly two hours for a tow truck. the repair was dirt simple, a new half shaft and a new ball joint. I would have saved much time and cost (axle and tow costs, plus the non-monetary costs I incurred by having to call into work etc.) had I done regular suspension check-ups.

Replace those ball joints and make the world a better place.
