ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

    i am so confused

so i have had my car for like 4 years, and have looked and searched, so now i ask. i have a 93 sedan that was oem badged a dx, it has power windows, locks, steering, cruise control, a/c, rear drums, manual trans, no sunroof... and an oem f22a6 with fuctional iabs and a pt6 factory install. whats up with that, the only thing i swapped in was the old manual trans for an h2u5. did i get a unicorn cb or did i miss something in my research

    You have a swapped LX.

im not an expert, but it was bone stock when i got it im pretty sure. who would do a fuctional a6 swap, and that is all, no intake, exhaust, nothing. I questioned the guy i bought it from, and he did nothing, and according to the old registration, some lady had it before him. i did the tranny swap, and plugs, wires, distributor, starter, a4 header, oil pan, valve cover gasket and shitloads more refreshing and it looked untampered with when i started, not a wire out of place, not a suspect mark, hell i even checked the bolt heads for damage or stripping. i have pics in the beginner image gallery under: 93 accord project. Besides the rear glass being smashed out, and cats living in it, and sap from the pinetree, and the trash in it, and the .... well it was mechanically sound to be short.

It really sounds like something is up with it. A shop may have swapped in the engine, and had the sense to do it right.
The DX badge is puzzling, though.

It has a DX badge... but what does the title/registration say? May be something else. Does it have black bumpers?

Also might have been a special order back when new... "I want the DX!! Cheap!! But give me power windows and locks. And the bigger engine." lol

Decoding the VIN should also show you what trim it was supposed to be, I believe.

I do recall hearing rumors of lower models getting the A6 for some odd reason way back when this site started, but I've since just chalked them up to rumors... as nobody has ever actually surfaced with such a claim.
Absolutely NO stock USDM CB Accord came with an F22A6 and rear drum brakes.

I bought my black cb that I did a hswap to with 136,000 miles from the original owner. Never had a new motor done or anything. And it was a original f22a6 with rear drum brakes.

yea i think what happened hear is a lx that's engine blew and they swapped in a a6 as for the dx badge maybe just a mistake maybe lost the badge or was stolen and put that one on just because they found it... who knows but sounds like a lx to me...

i had a 91 lx with an A6 as far as the guy i got it from new it had never been swapped. It was handed down to him from his parents. I just always assumed they probably blew it and swapped so long ago he never even new about it.

from what I understand iif it had the F 22a6 swapped into it there should be extra wires ran to the ecu from the iabs which should make it pretty easy to tell since the wires would be out side of the stock wire harness

another thought I had it is maybe it was a lx and they put the dx badge on to deter thieves from thinking it had any goodies within?

I am not familiar with the trim levels in the US but perhaps on time in its life it had a rear ender repair job done to it and the wrong badge was placed.

Also if the papers does indeed confirm it is a DX (base model) perhaps there were options that can be taken up which makes it have some equipment that would have been standard in an LX (top of the range).

My reasoning for the A6 engine would be an instance of lack of supply.

I believe in a production line if a part is out of stock a nearby replacement would be used (to prevent the disruption of production and cost associated thereof).

They may have run out of the normal engine to use on the DX and so necessitated the use of the LX engine keeping all else DX (drums, no sunroof, manual transmission etc).

When people buy these cars they normally trust the badging, confirm via the trim level and being a relatively new product all the engines look and sound the same. Not like one is longer, has more cylinder etc than the other which would be a dead give away. Computers are not seen and engines are hidden under the bonnet. Hey its still 2.2 litres right, still 4 cylinders right, still fuel injected so the A6 designation would have gone unknown.

These instances would have been far and few in between hence the myth or heresay status but would still have been made in the hundreds if not thousands till shipment arrives.

He probably meant EX. He's from Australia, and they don't have US trim levels. I'm sure you don't know the Australian trim levels all too well...

my guess is the car is actually one of the rare 5-spd EX's (according to Edmunds, they do exist), and was in at least a minor rear end collision where they replaced the small filler piece that has the badging on it with one from the JY that says DX .

edit: no sunroof? that's weird. I wonder if it's an imported Canadian car with different trim levels/motors that was in an accident. Does it have a block heater?

5 speed EXs are quite common. Nothing rare there.

The car is an LX in everything but the badging and the F22A6. The badge could have been changed quite easily. There's no reason a DX badge would ever be on a non-DX model.
The F22A6 COULD be factory. I've heard rumors of EX engines being dropped into LX models, but I've never actually seen it. Chances are, most people wouldn't know that they had the better engine.
The other option, as I said, is that it was swapped by a mechanic that knew exactly what he was doing, and therefore did it correctly with the proper ECU and IAB wiring.

tpod88, if you're still with us... check the IAB wiring to see if it's factory. If the engine was swapped, it's possible that the mechanic that did it used non-factory wiring to do it (of course, it's possible that a factory harness was used in such a case, too.)
Since you're the 3rd owner that you're aware of, it's entirely possible that the original owner did something stupid and blew the F22A1 that is supposed to be under the hood.

Regardless, you have an LX with a DX badge and an EX engine (for whatever reason.)
