ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    interesting question/statement

    well i have a lil question/concern.

well this is about cars in general, but it would be really nice about here our beloved accords in particular.

i was w/ my friend and he was talkin n hes like my dad made a really good point.

the point was, that he said car manufactuers MADE rust, so that after a couple years the owners would have to rebuy another car.. which would make perfect sense since cars in ohio n such where i live rust to shit especially hondas.. and honda would have theee perfect cars if it wanst for rust cuz they run forever.. right? so my question is what do u guys think? i think it would be incredibly shitty for them to do that, but i think it is a tactic of some kind..and its very possible..i understand its like a design flaw but mayb it was on purpose.. i dunno its a weird thing but i sorta belive it..

    what do u think?"

metal is metal. Its gonna rust and deteriorate, just like everything on earth will. Nothing is perfect. Thats #1

#2 Have you ever taken a look in the Socal, Nocal, Southern Sections? Hye don thave rust. There is a reason all cars from the NE have rust and why they Cars in the South look much better. Reason = Salt

#3 Apparently Honda fixed the problem starting with the 6th gen. Its too early to see, buti highly doubt that they do that on purpose. Honda also uses really thin sheet metal = A lot light than other cars = Better Fuel Economy.

#4 are you sure your not picking on Honda and noticing every car on the road. One reason you could see Honda as having that problem is becasue All the cars you see really rusted are really old. Many cars break to the point that are not worth fixing much earlier than out 15-17 yr old cars. You see a 87 hatch drive by with rust all over on a regular basis, but thats not so with other old cars.

Ohh and just for the irony

        salt on metal = rust.

        Whether it's a Honda or a Porsche.

Look at a 1990-1993 Porsche that has been used as a daily driver in Ohio.

        2001 Honda CR-V SE RT4WD

I remember that car, John! That thing was hideous!

Anyway, it's possible, but unlikely. Manufacturers don't want their stuff to not last... or they'll get a bad reputation and nobody will buy their stuff!

Rust, part failure, etc... Is the result of either poor engineering or budget issues.
It's VERY possible to make a car that will never rust. It's VERY possible to make a car that will never break down if properly cared for (well, maybe not NEVER, but WAY beyond what we consider to be a standard life for a car). It's VERY possible to make a car that uses little to no exhaustible resources.
BUT, who's going to pay for the engineering? Who's going to pay for the materials? Who's going to pay for the manufacturing? Such a car would be SO ridiculously expensive that it wouldn't be worth it. You could buy 3000 rusting, breaking gashogs for that price, I'm sure!

as everyone said salt is the culprit, also water...

              metal water and oxygen=rust.

but like everyone said it also depends on the car relibilty too.

most cars start rusting it is not worth fixing. but some cars it is.

heck my old cb was a 91 had over 300,000 miles, rear quarter panels were shot, front bumper was pushed in and the front drivers fender and drivers door had rust on it. but 5 min of driving it says it is reliable for everyday driving.

but look at fords most cars ecpt the 2nd escorts have no rust... why? they junk it when they see the rust there is no since to keep up the repairs.

heck good example.. look at the old school toyota pickups.. they were prolly by the worst rust buckets out there but they runs like a mule.

all manufacturers, not only automotive ones, dictate the design life of their products. Unfortunately, part of engineering is designing when a part or product will fail.

I had a teacher that was leading the Corvette Engine Development and he said that Honda and Toyota worked with the highest design life in industry.

Honda and Toyota apprx. 1.5 million km

My friend that works for ford confirmed this for me years ago! its what they call scheduled obsolesence. The esentially design something that is perfect then change it to fail.

as far as rust... metal rusts plain and simple rust was around before cars!
