ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    new guy

Hey what's up? I've actually been reading around these forums for a few days now just decided it would be a good idea to join up, I actually have some questions right off the bat as a new car owner..

I'm 19 years old and I just got this 92 honda accord ex. For the sake of making things easy we will just say this is my first car, and I don't really know much of anything about cars but I'm really interested in learning about them cause I think it's a good hobby type thing and plus I would like my car to look cool/be fast.

Now if you're still with me I appreciate it because if you're willing to put up with me for a bit I'll do my best to not disappoint. But basically, I suppose I'm the kind of person who wants a car that will stay with me for awhile, I don't really want to be putting a lot of money into a car that I'm not going to keep for a long time. That being said, I like going fast, and I really really want to get a stick shift, but I'm not sure when I'll have the money to get a new car/find a good one to buy..soo I thought I would ask you guys your opinion on it.

Worth it to keep my 92 honda accord EX with 150k miles on it?
I've read around and heard it was expensive to switch to a manual transmission.
Is it possible to make my car decently fast? I've also read that accords can't be fast, I'm mostly worried about the acceleration department. I'm actually pretty satisfied with how fast it is when I control the rpms, but it could always be better.
The life of the car? Like I said I don't know much about them, how long can a car really last a person? I'm into body kits so I'd probably be putting money into that as well if I decided to keep the car.

I probably have more questions later, and I can put pictures up if anyone is interested..again, if you took the time to read I really do appreciate it.

You can do the basic intake / header /exhaust... This will not increase your topspeed by throttle respone and acceleration will be better than stock. You will still gain horsepower.

How can you car last on you? Well that depends on how you take care of it. Give the car is regular maintennance intervals and she will live long. FLUID care is the number one priority and don't abuse it too much.

hows going man? I been around the block with Accords for a little while now and i am in no way disappointed. The swap to 5 speed isnt really that expensive if you go about it the right way. what you will need to do is find you a parts car on the cheap. Maybe a blown motor and rusty body will allow you to find a 5 speed CB7 for a couple of hundred if not less. then you'll need to recruit your friends for a good day of wrench turning. pull all the 5 speed parts from the parts car ... then install on your current CB7.

if located close to nashville i might be able to recruit you some help once it warms up but if you areent and you are really serious about learning and doing the swap there are alot of guys on here that are more than willing to HELP people out.

I can tell you a Honda with ONLY 150k will last you a longggg time...I've had mine for over 5yrs and put 60k mi on it. Get yourself a haynes manual and follow the maintenance schedule in it. Just remember, it is an old car and things will go wrong with it. I just finished up replacing the timing belt, belt tensioners, waterpump, and tranny fluid. Sometimes that car drives me nuts. But she's left me stranded only once (when the ignitor failed) and buying a new car is a waste of money, so I plan on driving it forever.

Well I don't have any friends that I would really trust to do that, but the guy I bought my car from owns a shop and I think he may be able to do it..and also Dark shadow lives like 5 min away from me so he may be able to help me out with ideas for my car.

Does anyone have a link or can list what kind of parts you need to do a swap to 5 speed?

and by the time I get that installed, I'd probably want a new motor(and actually this is gonna sound really dumb but i guess i never knew..are engines and motors the same thing?)

and yeah I am serious about this car, i'm actually selling my xbox360 so i can have some money to put some things like a new exhaust on it, my friend keeps telling me to get one, i dont know what the header or whatever is though..

Welcome to the site. Yes a motor and engine are the same thing. A header is the set of four tubes that run from your engine to the exhaust. If you look at your engine you will see a cover that has a hand with an X over it. This is your exhaust manifold cover. The biggest difference between a header and an exhaust manifold is that the exhaust manifold is stock and a header is aftermarket. As for the manuakl swap, my local junkyard sells transmissions for $125, plus the price of the stuff you need is, I think, around $60, plus the price of a rebuild kit. So for me it would be around $200 plus the price of a rebuild kit. Not to bad I think. And as long as the engine is maintained properly it can last a very long time, I'm pretty sure there are members on here with over 300k miles on their engines. Hope that helped a little bit, and again welcome to the site and enjoy your stay.

                    thanks and yea

I wish I knew how to install a manual transmission on my own cause i think it will be very expensive to have a shop do it..but oh well, if the car will last then it being manual is pretty important to me.

I don't know I'd rather just have it put into this car cause I think I have a pretty good car right here, I don't really like getting cars from other people..but we'll see depending on how costs go, but thanks for all your opinions I appreciate it

You can go to a junk yard/salvage company and get all the parts for the tranny swap for like $200, If you buy all new stuff, you are looking at about $5-600. It also is a good idea to get a new clutch when doing it. I just completed my 5 speed swap and in a few weeks will be doing a H22 engine swap.

                          you will need:
                          Honda tranny fluid
5 speed Trans from any F series(except s2000 tranny) or H series engine
Starter from a 5 speed car (same year/model but 5 speed)
Funny shaped cable guide bracket for top of tranny
                          Shifter cables with clips
                          shifter assembly
                          Shifter boot
                          Shift knob
Clutch and brake pedal assembly from 5 speed accord
                          clutch master cylinder
                          clutch lines
                          clutch fluid reservior
                          more clutch lines
                          dampener
                          clutch slave cylinder
new flywheel bolts and bolts to hold pressure plate to flywheel
Flywheel...I got a lightened Fidanza for the fun factor
get all the bolts to install these to your car.
ESP mount kit will help LOTS

I got a thread with some pics....

PS I am sure there are a few parts I missed....but you will know what they are when you get into tearing the stuff out of the other car.

                            Thanks for that info!!

I definitely wouldn't be doing this myself, I don't have the knowledge or the tools, so before I start even getting into the parts, I'm gonna need to go to a shop and see how much it would be for them to do the swap if I got all the parts, and if it's something that I can reasonably do then it will be done..

I would probably be goin to the junkyard for most of the parts but I would maybe want to purchase unused parts for the more important ones..but beyond that, my main question here is ,

do any of the parts have to be from the same model/year as another part..

Starter from a 5 speed car (same year/model but 5 speed)

5 speed Trans from any F series(except s2000 tranny) or H series engine

like, let's say i got a transmission from a 92 prelude, would the starter i got have to be from a 92 prelude, or all the parts interchangeable?
