ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

that's just an estimate on how many miles are possibly on it. for peace of mind and insurance of your investment, i'd replace them while the engine is out.

Most JDM imported engines range from 20k-60k. There's no telling where exactly yours lies unless you get the cluster with it.

I'd replace it the timing belt and water pump.

Timing belt, cam seal, water pump, balance shaft belt & seal, balance shaft & timing belt tensioners. I'd recommend OEM Honda parts rather than aftermarket, particularly the seals.

well it all depends on how many total miles the car has on it and when the last time the prevous owner replaced these things finding that out good luck, but if they never been replaced then its a good idea to replace them especially your water pump and timing belt oil pump will be fine unless you plan on serious engine building[QUOTE]

Regardless of mileage... this motor is AT LEAST 12 years old. I would change those things in a motor that old with 10 miles on it! I say this as I have an 1994 H22 with the original timing belt and water pump... Do as I say, not as I do!

It's MUCH easier to do it while the motor is out of the car.

And yeah, the oil pump isn't as necessary... can't hurt... but if you DO get a new one, only get a proper Honda one. Aftermarket ones can be worse than a functioning old stock piece.

One thing that springs to mind is that you'll have no idea how many miles are on that timing belt... if you're gonna do anything, replace that. You could have 70k good miles left on it or 20k miles. I'm particularly weary of engines with timing belts rather than chains because once that thing goes... you're in for a world of hurt. If you replace regular maintenence items now, you'll know exactly how many miles are on them.

Exactly. Main things why I recommend changing everything.

                    1. As already mentioned age of the motor itself.
                    2. Weathering you dont know where these have been or been sitting in yards. (If you have been to a junkyard you know what I mean when you look into some cars engine bays)
                    3. Owner responsibilities.
                    4. How its driven...This varies you can have an old grandpa that drove the car that had your motor or a raging speed racer.
                    5. I dont believe mileage until I see the odo where the engine was taken out of. There are some false claims out there watch out for those.
                    6. Its a piece of mind knowing everything is new and hopefully leak free when installed right.
                    7. Timing belt/Water pump/Seals is 100000000x easier to do with your motor sitting on a stand rather than on a car.
