ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    "Engine Restore"

You folks like it or dislike it? Good or bad for our engines?

    #2
ive used it and it actually raised my gas mileage. but i added it after i changed my oil and filter. but it ran smoother. i havent put it in my current motor yet tho i did a seafoam treatment on that. but ill be using the engine restore soon after it gets swapped to the 5spd tho. but i would recommend it tho

is that the stuff in the can that looks like a soft drink?

Never used it but ive used a lot of stuff like it and I think seafoam is the best and easiest. I use to use this other flush that I think is called just Flush that is sold at wal-mart and it actually worked out well... I think maybe gunk sells it. I put in a little a few days before I am going to change my oil and then I take out a quart of oil and put the rest in.... drive around on the free way for about 30 min (go around the 610 loop in Houston) and come and drain out the rest and the viscosity of the oil is like water.

I dont know what kind of oil you use but I use 20W-50 with slick50. Though i swear the slick 50 is gumming things up or it puts some strange thick coating on all the metal.... hell maybe thats what its suppose t do?

Why would I put 20W-50 in? Cause I live in hot as hell TX driving stop and go traffic with 120+ degrees on the freeway and stop lights ever 100 yards or so.

I dont wanna go off topic but maybe there should be a good what oil type is best for your weather topic if it hasnt been covered at naseum yet. actually I would just run straight 50 if I could find the stuff.... or maybe something synthetic that goes to 60 or 70... its thicker and offers better protection in high heat situations.

anyway about flushes... my dad said he used straight kerosene.... aka aviation gas in the engine after draining most of the oil. for 5 minutes. said it would smoke like a MOFO... but that was on a 68 mustang... dont think I would try it on the newer engines like ours.

I use 10w30 and it bears texas heat just fine...I dont see why you need such a thick oil. Im surprised that your engine hasnt had any issues. Honda oil clearances are usually pretty specific on what oil they use. Too thick and it doesnt get through.

                What's seafoam?

                What exactly is seafoam anyway?

too thick? Nope. I dont wanna get into this debate... talking about oil in a car forum is like talking about politics... to many opinions and not enough facts!

its a kind of engine treatment that basically flushes out all the carbon built up inside the engine. It helps w/ injectors, cleans the intake plenum/manifold, frees sticky lifters/valves and decarbs the inside of the engine. Its pretty effective stuff.

thanks for the explanation! i've always wondered what it was but never bothered to research it. i may have to do this to my car soon. hopefully it's not too expensive.

would carbon built up change your compression?

No has nothing to do with compression.

Yes its quite cheap. I always have a bottle of it around with me... its great as a cleaner as well.

Ive never put it in my gas tank but I'm sure it couldn't hurt. I think its better to put a lil in your pvc a lil bit at a time... I put a cap full in a minute slowly letting the pvc suck it up. I think you are suppose to put a good amount in the pvc then turn off the car and let it soak in then turn it back on.

yeah kinda right, you're supposed to put 1/3 of the can in your gas tank, 1/3 in your brake booster vacuum line going into the intake plenum, and 1/3 in your oil crankcase (right where your fill in oil, through the oil cap)

Carbon build up can change your compression if there's enough.

I took a motor apart and it had a few mm of carbon build up on it. Less volume=higher compression.

It won't change it drastically, or even enough to where you'll be able to tell a difference. But it does technically change it.
