ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Mileage Problem

    I have a 91 accord with about 190K miles.
My problem is that I get 24-26 MPG on the interstate and 10 MPG in the city.
Can anyone tell me what is the problem? or what is it that I should do?

Now I used Chevron Techron and my highway efficiency jumped to around 29 but in the city it still is 10.....Helpp

    Thanks

Ok, I googled it. No I am not heavy on the gas pedal.
I love my car. I am sane while driving. I let it warm for atleast 10-15 minute on cold mornings. Check all the liquids in a timely fashion. 26 to 10 is a HUGE drop.
          Once again helppppppp

did you really google leadfoot? lol if you use phrases like'timely fasion', I cant believe you dont know what a leadfoot is. lmao stick or auto? if you have a stick, I'll asume cuz you get fair mileage on highway, in the city, dont take off so fast. let the engine catch up alittle with the speed you want to go, and keep rpm's -+2500. oh, hows your tune? a bad rotor or cap can work different between hyway-city.
            you'll love my nuts!

lol , mine is auto. And I let the engine catch up.
              It sounds ok to me.
I don't mean to be rude but please everyone just elaborate a little as I am a new at this.

Ok what is a cap? I believe you meant capacitor.....where to look?

                  He meant the distributor cap.

Generally, a basic tune up consists of replacing:
                  1. Air cleaner
                  2. Distributor cap
                  3. Distributor rotor
                  4. Spark plug wires

Those 4 things also cause most gas mileage problems (when you don't have a lead foot)

                  Hope that helps.

Ok, thanks I will get on that.

I hope that you read about the huge drop from 29 to 10, any specific reason that would happen or should I just do the 4 above and go from there.

Yeah but the thing is, he is running 26 mpg on the highway.. i dont know if you guys missed that. It makes no sence why he
s getting 10 in the city, and that much on the highway

I did notice that, but I have nothing really to add to that discussion. I just clarified the cap question

Honestly, it doesn't make any sense for the OP to loose 16 mpg between the highway and city. V8s are the only kinds of engines to see anything near that kind of drop.

I'd say do a basic tune up, and then see where you are.

You can also try replacing the fuel filter, but it doesn't seem like you aren't getting enough fuel, lol.

I'll do a tune up,but I am scared now if you people here think that this is weird and new then I don't know where else to go. I hope someone who has experienced a similar problem chimes in.

Thank you all for your help.

How does your car idle? Have you done any modifications to it? How many miles do you have on it?

Oh, and add spark plugs to that list. I meant to type that earlier, but I didn't.
