So... Im pretty sure that the mechanic that did my headers is a friggin idiot. It rattles at about 2k revs. it looks like the downpipe/flexpipe is what is rattling. Any suggestions for this? I was thinking maybe some of that heat tape would atleast deaden the sound a bit... it's annoying.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Is the sound coming from the flexpipe area? If it's right beneath the firewall - maybe the guy had to bend some heat shield and its contacting now, or one of the fasteners broke off. Mine does that, too, before and after the engine swap. Bleah. I hear cbs doing the same thing once in a while.
Just make sure it's not coming from the engine itself. Hope this helps!

check for atleast 1/2 to 3/4 inch clearance around the exhaust pipe. ie: on a cool/not been run engine, see if you can fit you hand around the exhaust. like to about your knuckles. if you can then thats good clearance. if not then check for bent heat sheilds or somehing else that it could be touching. good luck in eliminating the rattlesKyle C

i just recently had a 2k rpm rattle also. turned out to be the bracket that bolts the downpipe to the block that was broken into 2 pieces causing the metal to bang against each other at 2k rpm. check to see if it's either a) broken and making contact w/ each other b) bracket bolted to block, but not downpipe causing it to rattle against the dp itself
otherwise i would check your heatshields for loose bolts/bent portions

yeah i had this prob. too. On your downpipe, there is a tab that's supposed to bolt up to the engine somewhere, well mine wasn't exactly tight and every now and then when idling or going up to 2k rpms, it rattled. So i just cut it off. It really is not needed, since the header is bolted on the engine w/ 9 bolts and is held up also by the cat converter. So do what i did and cut it off, it'll make life easier, trust me.

rattle or knocking?
what kind of header?
ebay headers like to come very close to the front crossmember, its possible that its bumping into that.
