ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Frozen caliper?

I ran into a bit of an issue, I've been working on my car's suspension non-stop lately and I've had the brakes off and the caliper laying on the ground still connected. Anyway, while i was adjusting the steering wheel I accidentally pressed the brake all the way down and now the brake caliper cylinder is completely expanded out, since it was off the car and had nothing to compress on. Have I damaged it? How can I recess it back??

    Thanks!

yu will have to bleed the brakes, but you could disconnect the line to the caliper, then slide something thin and strong like a metal putty knife under the piston. before you do that, though, you could try starting the car. the brake booster should suck some of the pressure back up and you can pry it back.

      Your fucked.

New calipers or get a rebuild kit, most likely you ripped the dust boot and main seal.
      wat?

Caliper rebuild kit is the cheapest route to go. You prolly only need the seal, retainer ring and boot. You will be bleeding that caliper once you get it back together. Real easy.

im not sure if youre completely screwed, try pushing the caliper back in with a C-clamp first.

            Update

Ok so before we all go off on a tangent about it being FUBAR'ed..lets see what we are dealing with.

Did the seal rip at all from the piston coming out too far? If it did, ya rebuild it. If it DIDN'T you should be fine. I would NOT recommend a huge C clamp. They are just as much as a brake piston return tool in the end. Just go buy this tool:

            http://www.matcotools.com/ProductImages/mst97a.jpg

( Plus you do NOT want to force that sucker in the housing ANYWAY but straight )

Also from my experience, starting the car doesn't help enough. It may move the piston but not nearly enough. Bleed the caliper juuust to be safe just in case that piston came out at all, inside the boot. Be careful of that bleeder screw. Its not as strong as we would like to think.

It's just nice hearing this happen to someone else......lol

P.S.- While the calipers are just hanging there doing nothing from what I gather...go get 'em powder coated...lol ( Haven't done mine yet )

I though I would just add my 2 cents CDN...lol

I ended up running to the junk yard to buy a caliper, but if mine is salvagable that would be nice so I could return the new one. I don't believe I tore the seal, but then again I'm not terribly sure how to check. I'm a bit of a noob with brakes. I was just looking for a quick fix to see if it could easily be fixed but if it's necessary to use tools and whatever else to bring it back then screw it.

Glad someone can relate to and laugh at my misfortune!
