ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Code 17 plus other problems - PLEASE help!

i recently bought a '91 accord LX sedan AT and i've got a few problems with it.

I'm hoping someone can chime in and help me.

first off, the gas guage is reading above 'F', and i'm pretty sure it's not full.
2nd, the temp gauge moves all the way up to 'H' and i'm pretty sure it's not overheating (although this gauge DOES move, just stays mostly on the hot side.......AND the radiator fan stays on for a really long time after turning the car off, but i guess that's because the ecu thinks the car is hot (hell, i don't know)
3rd, the speed shift light constantly blinks
    4th, the speedometer doesn't work
and lastly, the CEL is on.......reading code 17 (vehicle speed sensor).

I'm wondering if i REALLY need a VSS sensor or do i need a whole new cluster?

I have one from a '92 manual........but after reading a few threads, i guess it won't work (since this car is a '91)

    any input would be helpful......thanks!!

        1. The gas gauge isn't completely accurate, I can go about 90 miles before mine starts to go down, and then the 2nd half of the tank is only about 100 miles.

        2. Does it go that high as soon as you start the car? If so, it sounds like you probably need a new gauge sending sensor. It is a one wire sensor that goes into the head. either jy or buy a new one. If it slowly gets up that high over time, then yes, the car might actually be overheating.

3 and 4 are probably related. Fix the VSS (I've picked one up for $15 at a junkyard), and then clear the ECU and see if they go away.

The cluster is probably fine. The CEL wouldn't come on if the cluster was messed up.

hmm......i wasn't really paying attention to see if the temperature got hot immediately.....it was after a like a five minute ride through town when I noticed the CEL on and that's when i noticed the temp gauge......

where exactly is the temp gauge sending sensor? also, is the VSS from a manual interchangeable with my auto?

The temp gauge sensor is a little one wire (I think it's red) plug that goes into the side of the head, underneath the distributor. It is the only one wire plug under there, it's hard to miss.

You should just turn your car on, let it sit, and see how long it takes for the gauge to go up. You also might just need to bleed your cooling system, which you should check before swapping parts.

I'm pretty sure the VSS are interchangeable. I don't know for sure, though, so

Yes, it is near the rear motor mount bracket, right on top of where the driver's side axle goes into the tranny.
