ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Short shifter

I just recently got a short shifter from yeaman. As soon as I put it in I loved it but it kept hitting the consol when I was in 1st,3rd, or 5th gear. Then I did the bucket drop and it stopped it from hitting the console but since when I did that the cable went close to the original location of it , it feels like stock again. Is there anything I can do to the console in order to stop it from hitting?

Yeah, cutting the console is about all you can do. Every method of shortening the throw will result in that 5th gear hit (third shouldn't... never did for me... but his mounting point may be different).

Honestly, my short throw shifter seems to have made my shifting REALLY notchy. I put it back to stock recently. The short throw doesn't help when you have to fight to get it in gear!

The stock shifter definitely feels a lot better in Accords.

After driving with a short shifter for a while, I decided to switch back to stock just to see how it would feel. The stock shifter felt so much better that I never thought about putting a short shifter in my Accord again!

I have a 94 prelude stock shifter and it is awsome. It is shorter over a stock accord and it isn't all notchy like the short throws.

well the one yeamans gave me was perfect when i put it in. it was just how i wanted. wasnt notchy or anything, the only problem was that it hit the console. i did the bucket drop and now it feels like im back to stock. ima try cutting the console if thats my only solution, its worth it.

im not sure if im hitting the console or the piece that the boot is connected to.

You're hitting a metal piece. Get some tin snips and trim it. Removing the boot might be a good way to see exactly where you're hitting.

how hard is it to replace the stock shifter with another one! My friend I got the car from cut the stock shifter and put one of those shift knobs that u tighten with an allen wrench. It feels choppy and I dont want a short shifter I just want the regular stock shifter. Should I go to a junker or is there a place that sells oem replacements? Is it wirth getting a brand new one?

Cutting the stock shifter does absolutely nothing to shorten the throw. The choppy shifting won't change if you get a new lever.

Just get a junkyard shifter if you don't want the lower knob anymore.

Why a Prelude S? They're all the same.

I dont mean choppy in that sense. I dont know if the shifter is bent or if when he tightened the knob on it bent or tightened crooked. Hard to explain but it just feels weird. I am going to go to a junker and do it . Any how to's?
or will a haynes manual pretty much cover this

Just look at it... it's really easy to figure out. You won't need a manual for it. Take apart a junker first, and it'll all make sense.

The only way to alter the shifting, at all, is to change the mounting points. If he didn't move the mounting points, or mess with the cable tension, then the shifter won't make a difference. Unless your friend is He-Man, he didn't bend the shifter.

I know what you mean about the shifting... mine is much the same way. Altered shift points WILL make it notchier... as will damage to the internals of the transmission. That's more likely your issue.
