ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    A/C Problems

I need to re-charge my system but I don't want to go and pay a shop a lot of money to re-charge my A/C. Can I do it myself? My manual says that the system is pressurized and needs a professional to do it. Any help is wonderful.

Well I know you can buy the recharge cans, but they don't work great for a few reasons. Its hard to recharge it to the right pressure, it also should have a vacum put on the system first. Because if this freon got out, it means air got it more then likely. Pay to have it serviced is the best way. Has your car been converted over to R134? If not expect to pay a little to have it done because you can't get R12 anymore. How do you know it needs to be recharged? Is it a guess? Just because it isn't cold doesn't mean you need to recharge it, check to make sure the compressor is turning on as well as the fan.

you can get r12, its just a little more expensive. They even sell freeze 12, I guess its somewhat similar.

I'm pretty sure its illegal to buy now. It was banned, hence the introduction of r134, maybe thats only in Canada though.

            Hello,

I have seen this done and I do not recommend it. Many times there is loss to atmosphere a large amount of refrigerant gas and this is very harmful to the environment. I have seen AC recharge deals run somewhere around 50 bucks and if you want to do this yourself it will cost a signifigant portion of that. My advice, go and get it done and save the hassle.

When I have the a/c on full power the air that comes out is almost hot. There is some coldness in it but mostly hot. If I don't need to recharge then what can it be then?

Did you convert your system to R134a before? If so Just go buy recharge can and charge it up. Cost me only $23

Your best bang for your buck is to go and have a evacuated and then recharged, you can do it with the can, but it won't be as cold, and could end up blowing the compressor, pay the $50, and have it done right.

well before you buy freon, check for leaks in your discharge lines. My lower discharge line was leaking so bad that R12 was leaking out ...w/in a month it was empty. So have someone put some dye in the system and then inspect w/ a special UV light.
