ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Cold air intake shield?

I'm not sure if this is the right name for the part, but its kinda like a metal shield that the intake pipe goes through right where the piping connects to the filter and it blocks off the engine heat from the filter when the hood is closed. Do these really work for isolating the heat from going into the intake? And also, can I buy one pre-made or will i have to fabricate it myself?

I fabricate crap all the time (kinda my job) so of course I made one. Does it work? I think so. Here are some pics of it getting built.

      Mockup

Lucite measured and ready to be cut

Lucite bent to the proper angle

      Shield painted blue

Heat screen/blanket attached to the backside of the shield

And here it is all said and done.

How did you bend that Lucite? Plumber's torch very carefully?

              word to your mother...

this would only be effective if the filter was underhood as well.

damn fine job on the box otherwise.

With the "seat of my pants" gauge, I would say it was miner. Nothing like slapping on a header or anything.

I did have a SRI and it did a great job blocking the heat and kept the filter much cooler under the hood. That and the thermal sleeve I installed around the pipe also did a great job keeping the intake pipe cool. I have an extra intake sleeve if anyone wants it...

IMO don't waste you time making one of these if its a CAI

Well i have a cai but i modified it a little so it sticks halfway in the fender and halfway in the engine compartment. If i make one of these and do it perfect so that when the hood is shut, it makes a tight seal, it could only do good. Plus the cost of material would probably be like $4 so even if it only gives it like a half hp, its still worth it for $4 I think.
