ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

i got Illuminas with GC coilovers.

i bought the car with em on so i dont have any comparison to anything other than other stock accords i have driven.

    these things are awesome.

    5 way adjustable dampening
10 mins to raise or lower the car.

    cant beat it IMO.

im sure as others have said that this isnt the BEST setup but it works wonders for me.

Seriously, if money is tight and you're forced to buy cheaper dampers, then buy them but put the stock springs back on until you can afford a 'proper' set up. Cheaper dampers + lower / stiffer springs = short damper life, all else being equal.

All that aside, stiffer springs require stiffer dampers, so stock rate or near stock rate dampers fitted to stiffer springs will tend to be 'bouncy', which does no favours for handling or roadholding (you'd be better off with softer springs).

Alright, I'm with you on the setup importance, and to clarify I don't want "cheap" struts as in "crappy", just don't have the loot to get the best right now so I'd like something that will work awesome without breaking my wallet!

Nothing will work "awesome" without breaking your wallet.

KYB GR2s are probably the best price for new struts that can withstand a drop for a fair amount of time. They won't aid performance, and they aren't meant to be slammed... but they'll still be a hell of a lot better than blown stockers.

Really, Konis are the best to get. They're not cheap, but you buy them once and you have them for life (unless Koni goes out of business, that is...)

Alright, so if everything works out right I may be buying my new shocks, finally, this weekend. I'm considering either the KYB GR2's or the Tokico HP's since I can get a full set of either for $200-$250. Which do you think would be the better choice? I'm also considering taking my coilovers (sleeves) off in the future and replacing them with Eibach Sportlines so which one of these shocks will hold up the best if I put these springs on? I'm definitely happy about the stance that my CB has since it was lowered so I don't want to compromise that but I am tired of the blown shock situation after a year and a half. Anyways, here's the stance that my ride has right now...

I've heard lots of stories of blown HPs... GR2s seem to hold up better. I would recommend the GR2s if you have to go cheap.

How long have you had the GR2's on and how's the ride?

i had them since the beginning of this year. first, on neuspeed sports then the races. on the sports the were good, better than the ebay coils I've had before heck, better than blown 16yr old shocks. on the races though, they are too soft. their good for a mild drop but anything lower and the gr2's become too bouncy. trying to get some koni yellow front shocks (i have the rears) for almost two months now. but koni's back ordering is making me want to go after another suspension set up and send the rears back to them in disgust.

So you think they'll be bouncy with what I have set up right now? Bouncing on the freeway at 80 mph sucks, not to mention unsafe as hell too. I want/need to get my suspension right before I drop the H22 in in a couple months. I've got a decent drop right now but it isn't slammed and I don't want to take it any lower, just don't want to feel every bump in the road anymore either. Thanks.

it wont be horribly bouncy, just a bit too soft for any overly aggessive drop. ive drove more than 80mph with no problems on the gr2's.

Right on dude, I appreciate the info. It looks like your CB sits pretty close to the same height as mine so if you've had a decent enough experience with 'em than I'm probably going to give them a shot. If I can maintain my ride height that I have now and switch to the Sportlines I'll probably do that pretty soon too and just remove the coilovers.

I'm going to order my new shocks/struts today and had planned on going with the KYB GR-2's when I came across these...

I would still go for GR2's for $10 to $15 bucks more.

I found these from 2 different places...

The first one is a little cheaper so I may just go with them since the product is the same anyways.
