Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

running lowering springs on my stock struts

Yes, running lowering springs on stock shocks is a bad idea. The shocks you have aren't designed for a drop. Better to get a shock that can take it than one that can't. Look in the suspension thread (lowering 101). It's a good sticky to read.3 CB's gone....

Still miss the CB though......maybe one day.

Depends, honestly. If you're doing a 1.5" drop, or less...then I'm pretty sure it'd be okay. If you're going lower than 1.5", that's when aftermarket struts would be NEEDED. If you're low on cash, and just want the lower, go for it. Also depends on how old your stock struts are. My front struts, that were replaced 3 years ago, I have Ebay coilovers on. I've had these coilovers for about a year, and I'm always adjusting. I've had my car as low as it could go for quite awhile, and to this day...my struts are fine. Now, for the rear...they weren't replaced, and they blew.
But, like I said. It depends on your drop. If you're looking for a lower for performance....you want aftermarket struts, definitely. If you just want the looks, then struts aren't a MUST (Unless you're going lower that 1.5"). Struts are made to hold weight, and hassle. Put two 80 Ibs. bags of sand in your trunk...and right there, you have a 1.5" drop WITH strain, and you won't have people yelling...DON'T DO THAT. YOUR STRUTS WILL BLOW. Most people would disagree, but it happens.98' Mustang 3V Swap

I ran stock sruts with my H+R 1.75" drop springs and the only gain I got was looks. It drove fine and looked great but if you are dropping for performance reasons, even if your shocks hold up, which i'm sure if you don't slam it to the ground they probably will, your not gaining any of the performance aspect. I did the stock struts for about a year and I just did Tokico Illumina struts about a week and a half ago and I never had a clue on what I was missing.
No more wobbly rear end and I dont bottom out on half of the speed bumps and things I used to. And it corners like a dream!
The struts I got are 5 way adjustable and now that I have it I can't stand running on anything less then 2 (5 is stiffest) If i were to go back to stock struts I would have to kick my own a**! No way i would even think about doing a spring upgrade without new stuts again.
I don't reccommend it in any way, but if you're like I was and you have broken front springs i would conisider doing it... otherwise I wouldn't risk my CB7 that way ever again!

yeh i lowered mine on eibach springs on stock struts, and have had no problems for over a year, but the only reason i did it was cuz my front springs were broken in half when i got the car, so in order to ride right i had to do something...wish i had the money to get proper struts, would prolly help out handling a good bitLost Motion Inc. Yeah, I've been running ebay coilovers on stock struts for months now with no problems at all. If you're going for performance, definately should get a set of new struts in the not-to-distant future, but if you're going for looks (like me) then you should be fine. They won't last forever, and it'll definately shorten their life, but struts always need to be replaced anyways, even at normal ride height they'll go

Ya dude, if you are either going to take the time to do the switch yourself or pay someone else to do it, it will be alot better in the long run to do it all at one time (springs/struts). I've been ridin around on blown struts for well over a year now and the bouncing is annoying for sure, and the faster you go the less safe your handling becomes. Make sure you throw a camber kit on there while you're at it and you'll be good to go.
Still hustlin that Old Skool.......it never ends.

Lowering on stock struts is dangerous. It will cause uneven tire wear. It will result in SHITTY handling. Your ride will be bumpy and uncomfortable. People will laugh as you squeak and slam over bumps, and continue bouncing down the road on your springs.
Stock struts, if they're original, which is likely... are AT LEAST 15 years old... probably more (since many 93s were made and sold in 92). If they aren't near dead on the stock springs, dropping the car is sure to kill them. It's like making an 80 year old man fight in a cage match... He might still be alive going in, but his chances of lasting very long are slim!
Those who lowered on stock struts are one of three things... or a combination of some of them... 1) Lucky. They may have bought the car with newer struts, or they just may have been lucky enough to have the originals hold up. 2) Oblivious. They may just not realize that their car rides and handles like poop. They may not realize that their tires leave the ground over bumps. Or 3) Stupid. They know it's bad. They don't care. To take advice from these people is idiotic.

I am on Skunk2 springs and stock shocks... my car looks like ass over bumps and feels like shit.
Only reason I am on this setup is cause it's what came with the car. Honestly unless you don't mind tearing up your suspension (I would if I had the time) just save up and do it once. At the very minimum, get Tokico HPs.
