ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    A1 balance shaft belt

What is the downside of just removing the balance shaft belt? I heard of people doing it, but it's there for a reason or at least you would think so. Would it be better to do on a rebuild when you get the bottom end rotating assemblies balanced?

I can see some of the positve. A little less parasitic drain on the engine. Rev faster, micro hp gain, but how much differece does it make on engine vibration? Am I shortening the life of anything with out fully balancing the rest of the botom end?

I've had mine off ever since I did the headgasket on my car. It removes about 8 lbs of rotating mass, since those shafts aren't spinning w/ the engine crank. It's also good b/c you won't run the risk of walking your front balance shaft out...unless you already have that retaining seal. Vibration is minimal though, when you first drive it you'll notice a little, but you get used to it. There's no shaking through the cabin or something that dramatic though.

A member on here, I believe Owequitit, ran his F22 for 63k miles w/o any problems, it would've been more but he got an H22 swap done.

So I was trying to replace my balance shaft seals and the screwdriver slipped out of the maintaince hole for the rear shaft and not sure how to line it all back up. Should I try to line it back up(ideas for this) or just leave the belt off. I dont want a lot of shake and I want my engine to last. I know balancing it wrong might be worse than not balancing it at all.

I'm also curious about this. I'm going to the JY Thursday to find an A6 IM, cam and hopefully an A4 header. The ecu that i'll need I need to read up on more as to what models have them but since i'll already have the timing belt off i'll be able to get to the balance shaft belt and wasn't sure if I could just take it off and discard it or what all could happen by not running that belt.
