ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    blower motor inop, fuses ok.

i am really hoping it's not the switch. i swapped the blower assembly (motor, resistor, housing, etc.) and it still doesn't work, but the recirc motor is moving.

i checked the fuse under the hood and the dash. i still have to check for voltage at the connector, but the psgr side door is up against the wall in my garage and i cannot get to that just yet.

are there any other likely culprits? i don't want to pull the dash trim to check the switch unless i absolutely have to. i don't know how to check relays, but i imagine that would be next. the motor does not work in any speed. i know it shares a ground with other items and those are working.

the car had a lot of lights and accessories that were not working when i bought it and this is the last item on the list. any help would be appreciated.

If you swapped the blower motor for a known working one, you probably have a wiring problem. Proper diagnosis is key if you want to save money. Check for voltage and ground at the blower motor connector after you check the blower motor relay. To do a superficial check, have someone cycle the blower motor between on/off and touch the relay. You should feel and hear the action of the relay; it will make a click. If you have the skills, you may attempt to jump the blower motor by connecting it directly to battery voltage and/or ground. Considering you had other electrical problems, I wouldn't be surprised if there is more than one problem.

so far, the other issues were related to blown fuses and bulbs and disconnected items. i havent seen any evidence of "damage" or abuse or anything like that, so i am still hopefull that its just the relay.

i do appreciate your help and will focus more on the relay and checking for power at the connector.

well, i think the switch is bad. i have voltage at the yellow/black wire which should mean the relay is good, but i have an open at the blue/red wire no matter what speed setting the switch is at. either that or there's no ground to the switch.

Sounds about right. Be sure that the switch is connected to ground as well and, for further certainty, I would jump that blue/red wire to a ground to make sure the blower motor is working (that is unless you are already certain the blower motor is good).

it would seem that there is a ground-to-switch issue because the motor doesn't work at any speed. there's only one ground to the switch, but 4 or 5 wires going from the switch to the transistor/resistor assembly. what are the chances of a switch going bad at all speeds? i will check the switch out tonight. like i said before, the car is pretty much unmolested, just needs some TLC, so unless a gremlin got in there and happened to gnaw thru just the switch ground wire, i don't know what else it could be.

Looks like you'll be getting down and dirty with that switch. It is possible for the switch to go bad at all speeds, but you will only need to check two wires at that switch, the blue/red wire and the main ground wire. Turn the blower setting all the way to max (this connects the blower motor directly to the switch and bypasses all resistors), and then check the blue/red wire. There should be ground. If there is ground, you have a fault somewhere in that wire. If there is no ground, the problem is either the switch or its ground. If the main ground wire is indeed grounded, the switch is bad.

so, i took the blower switch out tonight...

i went through all the screws and all the switches and the rest of the crap to take the dash trim out. i get the switch out and go to take the knob off and the switch clicks. it never clicked before.

i put the key in and get blasted in the face with the blower! i take the knob off and look at the back side of it- it was the typical cracked/broken slot that made it spin on the switch... i swap it with the temp knob just to make sure and i just sat there in a little disbelief. all that disassembling (some of it was already apart) i could have done without. i actually felt a little dumb.

so, after all that, the switch is fine, blower is fine- the failure was the $5 knob.

yeah, well it was broke when i bought the car, so i had no clue, no reason to suspect it. it's not like it worked one day and was broke the next.

it's all good. thanks to those who provided input though. i learned a little about diagnosing electrical shtuff, so it wasn't a loss.
