92 LX with 260k Miles. Standard mods but will be competing in autox this season.
My question is whether to stick with a conventional 5W30 or switch to full synthetic. New oil pan gasket has been installed but i hear that switching at this high mileage can turn your car into a seive with oil spilling everywhere. I dont have the desire to strip an engine out and replace all the gaskets if that will even fix the damage.
Next question: Passenger side driveshaft. I purchased new ones(l/h and r/h) and the drivers side slipped right in no problems. I got the passenger side out but the new one will not go in. Upon inspection it seems that at the end of the splines on the old shaft the, metal has been milled so that the splines are the highest point, if that makes any sense. I have been to 3 different auto parts stores and they all look the same. I can slide the old one in with no prob but the new ones wont. Tranny code matches up also. ( iwas told that could be a different tranny and thats the problem but i dont see hpw that would matter). Replaced boots on old one after fully cleaning and relubbing and put it back on, although now after 6 months its making that terribleclumking when turning hard left. So whats the deal with this? anyone else have this prob? any ideas?
Thanx for reading all this btw and ty in advance for any suggestions. First post here but ive been reading for 6months or better. Oh and rollin granny green too
