ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Cleaning brake calipers

    Hey everybody,

Well I'm trying to do a brake upgrade for my Accord and I recently stumbled upon the parts needed for this upgrade. I found Acura Vigor calipers and brackets from the local J/Y and want to clean them up a little bit. What's the best way to proceed with this? Are there any shops I can take them to get them painted and refinished? Any help would be appreciated!

Here are some pics to show you what I'm dealing with:

I just took some degreaser and sandpaper and then painted them w/ duplicolor's high heat paint in red. Not a chip yet, and they've been on there for a year.

But you did make sure you got Vigor Rotors too right? b/c the Accord ones won't work. And you'll also need at least 15" wheels to clear those brakes. But its a kick ass upgrade, stops WAY better than the stock front brakes and doesn't fade at all. I've got Brembo rotors and Hawk HPS pads on mine. Even my ABS still works w/ this upgrade.

i'd have them sandblasted and powdercoated. it would probably run less than $100, but it would be worth it. later.

Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna get me some new rotors and pads.

TypeG - Somebody else told me that too, might look into that if it's worth it in the end.

I recently had mine sandblasted and powdercoated.

For both brackets and calipers, I was charged 180 I believe. I know that sounds expensive, but care must be taken not to get powdercoat into the cylinder.

Just for comparison, this guy charges 50 a wheel and about 80 for a valve cover.

I agree though, powdercoat is the best way to go. It'll stand up to chemicals and chipping far better than any paint.

Powdercoat is great if you have the means, but if you're on a budget and need the money for more important things, I second the duplicolor finish, it makes a really nice finish and is extremly durable. These calipers don't look bad enough to justify sandblasting.

i cleaned mine up with some brake and dust cleaner, wiped it down with some water , dried it and i hit it with some duplicolor red caliper paint , and still looks good , no chips yet buts so far its been about 2 moths go

i took the brackets oof and painted thim on a table

the calipers, i hanged them with a coat hanger so its still connected to the brake line to prevent me doing a bleeding of the brakes , then i put a bag over the roter to prevent over spray
