ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

    suspension setup for ajustability

Hello everyone I and new here if you can not tell. I have tried to research this as much as possible on here but it gets some what confusing with every one going in different difections as most peoples opinions do.

I have a 90 4dr ex that is currently stock. I have just purchased some 17s that have 205-45-17s on them, but I have 195-60-15 for my winter tires on the stock rims. Now as I am sure you are picturing it in your head that it is a 4x4. I would like to lower it to say a finger or two height which according to the lowering faq is about a 1.4 to 2 inch drop. I do not want to turn my front bumber in to a snow plow in the winter so I was thinking of going with adjustable suspension.

I was reading one of the threads that was discussing coilovers and sleeves and I just got lost in the opinions. I would like to be able to have my car lower in the summer and raise it in the winter. I understand I might have to get it aligned each time and that is fine. Also I may only be in this area for another couple years and might move to a place were I can leave it lowered or possibly go lower.

So my question is what would be best for someone who knows very little about car suspension. Also I am price concious to a point, I want good stuff but I do have a limited budget.

byw, great read on the lowering faq.

you may want to use full coilovers.

what kind of budget are you on? either way unless you find some deals, you be spending about $500+ on a set of good coilovers and struts or if you have at least $650 a good set of FULL coilovers.

if your on a $500 and below budget, i see a few people go with Skunk2, Ground Control, or Megan Racing. all would be good matched with Koni Yellow(Ground Control matched with Koni Yellow struts are REAL popular). if you go on honda-tech.com everyone is either running Ground Control w/ Koni Yellows or Function Form Type I or II's. but its an expensive set up tho.

now if you want, you can go with some good lowering springs like Tien, Dropzone, or Eibach. all three will give you a drop of at LEAST 2in. not too low but noticeable to you and wont give you a harsh ride. match them with some good struts like KYBs or Tokicos and you have a good set up with a confortable ride.

all i advise you NOT to do is cheap out. suspension is ONE thing out of the few things on your car to NOT cheap out on. its whats holding your car above the ground other than your rims and tires, and if you loose that, your likely to injure/kill yourself and/or others.

ive installed suspension on my car about 5 times or more now, and about 6 or 7 others. all which i did myself. its easy. just might take you a while to do the 1st time. if you have any other questions, be sure to let me know PM or send me a profile message.

I was originally thinking about springs and struts, but was not sure how low it would be with the stock rims and winter tires. Do you have any idea how low it would be with about a 1.8" drop on the stock rims? I really want something that is easy to maintain. I do not plan to play with it once it is set, unless I went adjustable for winter and summer. I would be content with a fixed setup that would allow me to run both.

I just unfortunatly have lack of knowledge in this area. I was also just looking at my tire and rim setup with the 17s and they are right on the edge of the car. So I am concerned with rubbing if I go too low. Though I could be wrong.

Thanks for your help and advise.

you'll be ok with a nice drop at 1.8-2" with the rims you have. go with some Eibach Sportlines. give you a nice drop without the worry of it being to low or you scrapping. your tires are ok tho. i have 205-55-16s but i only scrape only because im dropped so low.

Are the sportlines stiffer than stock? I would like a bit better performance. I am asumming I would probably use Koni yellows with these as it seems that everyone raves about them. This is my DD but then I do like to drive a bit harder than the average DD.

I have seen spring rate numbers, and well I kind of understand but the logic just not the implementation. A higher number would mean that it was stiffer (assumption) I just don't know what would be the correct choice. I do not intent to race professionally. Though I do like to corner hard (miss my street bike sometimes ) so I would like to reduce the body roll as much as possible.

From what I have found on here increasing the size of the rear anti-sway bar is the way to go, and then strut tower braces. I will stop there as I am starting to drift away from the topic to a degree.

a Progress rear sway bar will help decrease body roll and increase handling. Sporlines? im not too sure on how stiffer or softer they are due to the fact that ive never had them. iv had Dropzone lowering springs. i loved the ride and they were on stock struts at that. nice and soft. but they were too soft for me tho. im sure a set of good struts like Koni Yellows or some Tokico's would have stiffened up the ride a little more.

and yes. i do believe the bigger the number, the stiffer the ride. but dont quote me on that.
