ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

AEM CAI vs. Generic Short Ram

I have a generic short ram intake right now. Will the AEM CAI give me more hp over the short ram?

they are both tubes...I fail to see any difference. If the bends are similar then there will be no difference. a 3" metal tube is a 3" metal tube...the main difference will be in the filter.

            Don't spend $300 on AEM...spend $14 on generic and then 50 on a good re-usable filter.

You tellin me there is no HP difference between the cooler air vs the hot air from the engine bay? I find that hard to believe....

                your engine gives off heat
so unless your whole intake pipe is heat resistint your not gonna get shit
you will still pull in hot air

I'd never waste money on an aem intake unless you got it for a steal.

The way it's designed gives the power band a weird fucking dip(mid range) then power goes back up. I hate that. I've noticed that dip with all aem intakes on various motor setups.

To anyone that bought the ten dollar intake, of course it sucked. It's 3 fucking inches. Do you realize how overly big that is for anything under 200hp and a 6k redline? Try something with a similar design in 2.75 or 2.5" and you'll see a much better gain.

You must of read what i said wrong. I said COOLER air then a short ram, not COLD air. I know the air temp is going to be higher then the ambient air temp outside the car. My point is wouldnt the air going through a true CAI be COOLER then the air going through a short ram? Therefore making better combustion, making more HP (whether its noticable in the seat or not, it would show up on a dyno)....And as far as what d112crzy said, isnt the AEM CAI 2.5" anyways? i have 3" short ram right now. So with the smaller piping and COOLER (not cold) air shouldn't i get some kind of increase??

yes, the aem is 2.5", but so are the intakes off ebay.

So would the $60 CAI's off ebay be just as good as the $200 AEM one? (if i change the filter)

maybe not AS good, but it would be within 1hp or so. It helps thats its a 1 piece and it's so long.

short ram intake - if you want a faster throttle response

cold air intake - give more power bec. it gives a cold air to the engine.

i got aem cai on my 93 coupe ex and i felt the diff.

It's not the physically cold air that gives more power. The temps probably vary 10* on a good day from sri to cai.

The power comes from the length.
