ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

kinda found where oils leakin. still need help

ok i "cleaned" everything under my engine so i could find the source of my oil leak...well this is what i found. i Cant tell whether its leaking from the oil pan gasket or if its leaking from the transmission...which would be the rear main seal...any suggestions?

Rear main seal. Transmission has to come off to do it. Ignoring it could be risky.

        Hard?

Hard is a subjective term that really depends on your experience level and the tools at your disposal.

Is it tedious, yes. Tedious in that there are several steps that must be followed in order to remove the transmission.

Some words of advice, if you're planning on doing this, obtain a cherry picker or a transmission jack so you can eliminate about 2-3 hours from the install time.

converting to manual isnt quite as simple as dropping in a m/t and bolting the pedals, shifter, and hydraulic assemblies up and off you go.

if you're worried about just removing your auto and replacing a seal then i dont think you should jump into converting to a 5spd unless you have someone helping you that knows what they are doing and have VERY THOROUGHLY read thru the trans swap stickies.

what makes you think rwd cars are easier to convert? one less driveshaft?

rear mains on our cars are cake. sorry if you got insulted but it sure didnt sound like you had much experience by the question you asked.

seriously though. read the 5spd swap stickies.
unless you buy some nice, pricey mounts you will end up cutting out and relocating a M/t mount, along with possible drilling and tapping new mount holes, and wiring your shit to work correctly.

removing the trans on our cars is simple enough that when you are ready to swap it is the least of your worries.

just fix your leaks first so your motor stays alive.

this job pays like...4 hours for a shop to do it...it's like 3-400 dollars? all for one seal.

You have to pull the tranny...not easy...a lift would really help

The auto to manual swap is easy. The most complicated part is welding the manual transmission bracket in place of the auto bracket. Otherwise, it's just bolting on parts.

the rear main seal is not extremely difficult. As it has been said above, dropping the transmission is the most complicated part. It's a fair amount of work, but not difficult work.

Invest in a Helm manual, and you'll be set.

You'll need to tap a hole in the tranny, I believe. I may be wrong, since I'm not as familiar with auto, but with the manual H tranny, you have to do that.

Seriously, it's not that much work to do.
Another option is to go to ESP (they have a Member Shop here) and buy their conversion mount.
