ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Spark plug tube seal replacment

Good day everyone. I plan on doing this next week, but I have a quick question: If I recall, someone mentioned loosening all the valves a bit to ease in reinstallation of the rocker arm assembly. Is this necesary and if so, how would I got about doing it?

    Thanks,
    Cris P.

there is no reason to loosen the rockers? once you take the valve cover off you can pull out the tube seals on the under side of the valve cover, replace all 4 and the cover gasket and reinstall.

he is talking about the lower tube seal.

you take out the bolt the hold the rocker arm. DO NOT TOUCH VALVE ADJUSTMENT BOLTS

I think there are no need to touch # 8 and 11

Tighten the 6mm bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm) and the 8mm bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

Follow that PDF tightening down sequence

I'll definately be doing a valve adjustment after the tube seals.

So when I remove the rocker assembly, there is NO need to loosen (or increase the valve lash) the valves to help with reassbembly?

          Thanks,
          Cris P.

^I would actually loosen all the adjusters completely, it is recommended in the Helm's manual, and the less stress on the rocker assembly, the better, it just makes sense if you think about the forces from the valve springs that are sprung. Plus, it'd be stupid to not do a full adj. anyways while you're in there. Def. take your time w/ this, you don't want to do this job twice nor do you want to mess up the rocker assy!

And to loosen the adjusters I just use a 10mm wrench to loosen the adjusting nut and a flat head screwdriver to back it out a bit. Then tighten the nut back down?

Exactly, loosen the 10mm jam nut, back out the adjusters all the way, still threaded in the arm of course, but pretty much all the way backed out. Then when the rocker assy. is all back on and retorqued and you're ready for your valve adj, thread the adjusters back in and do the adj. to spec.

I did not touch the adjusters when i did mine, and they came out fine.

Soooooo what's the verdict here??? Loosen valves or leave them alone

(Yes I know to adjust them after replacing the rocker assembly)
