Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

    Unplugging oxygen sensor

    Hey,

So I'm throwing code 43, the car is bogging at all different speeds and I am leaning towards oxygen sensor based on past experiences on this forum, but I want to be sure before I shell out some money.

If I unplug the oxygen sensor, will the car still run okay? My logic is that if I leave it unplugged and don't experience the problem, the O2 sensor is at fault. Can the car run with it unplugged though?

Does the ECU go into a "safe" mode when it does not receive data from the O2. I've read the ECU doesn't read from O2 upon startup.

    -Thanks in advance

        Check engine light.

Code "1 " usually means the o2 is faulty.

If you unplug it get it fixed as soon as possible, I had mine unplugged and kept fouling out the plugs.

when the car thinks the o2 sensor is not giving correct readings, the ecu will go into "closed loop" mode where it'll run a standard fuel/air map that'll make your car run rich most of the time.

usually your ecu is in "open loop" and it goes off of what the o2 sensor is reading from your exhaust fumes.

you should be throwing a CEL code if it's that bad.

                  As I stated up there ^^ a code 43 isn't your o2 sensor.

                        41 is the o2 sensor.

1 , 41 & 43 can lead to an oxygen sensor failure. 43 is the most difficult to diagnose because there are many possibilities.

You are right... it could be many possibilities with 43, but I'm trying to eliminate the O2 sensor. I've read through many posts on 43 and people who have that code and experiencing the same symptoms say it is usually the O2 sensor. Of course I will check the distributor/wires/plugs later.

I checked my Haynes manual today and it said that the ECU will use a default value if it senses the O2 sensor is bad.

If your CEL goes on around 50mph, then that is a pretty good indication that it is the o2 sensor. But yes, as stated above (and ignored by new postwhoring members), code 43 is the fuel supply system. A faulty o2 sensor can read the air/fuel ratio improperly, and the ECU can think that there is something wrong with the fuel system.

Replace the o2 sensor, and if it doesn't solve your problem, look deeper. The o2 sensor is probably due for replacement even if it isn't the problem. I bet it's original.
