ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Lower ball joint

    replacing the lower ball joint.

    from a scale of 1 to 10?

    10 being the most difficult.

What you consider difficult and what others consider difficult will vary significantly.

Look up how to do it, and if it looks too hard for you, pay someone to do it for you.

      i agree with deev,
nothing is too hard though, if you have the right tools for the job.
look up what it takes and then honestly assess your situation.

well to me it wasn't hard but i was in my uncles shop n he basically had all the tools i needed...not having the right tools and not knowing is gonna make it a longer n tougher to do...really all you do is take the caliper off, hang it up wit a aluminum hanger or something, pull out the cotter pins from the upper n lower balljoints and tie rod end, undo the hose from the spindleand the bolts on the balljoints and tie rod, your gonna need a fork or ball joint separator and a decent size hammer/mallet, undo the axle nut, n the whole spindle basically comes off... i did both on my girls wagon in about an hour an a 1/2...

A ball joint press is a good thing to have for this job. You can get it as a loaner tool from autozone. You might have to explain to the guys there what it is. In my case they had never heard about it.

I removed the knuckle and took it to a buddy at Midas to press out the old and the in the new one. He only charged me 20 bucks.

This tool is definitely a must have if you're going to be doing the job alone at home.

I'd say it's about a 4/10 on the difficulty scale. 10/10 would be something like pulling and rebuilding a transmission.

yeah having the right tools will help the most. ive destroyed a few ball joints trying to install it using the wrong toools. im not sure about accords yet but on civics and integras you need snap ring pliers. it wont come out at all if you dont take it out

A BFH will get it out. Getting it in can be done with a vise, a properly sized socket (to put pressure on the outside rim only), and that very same BFH.

I think you also might need a Cir-clip remover. Its like a tool that has 2 pointy ends that go into the ends of the circular C clip and open it a bit so the balljoint can be removed.

DO NOT forget about that stupid fucking clip.

ive heard to many storys of people beating the shit out of their knuckles trying to get the balljoint out, and then remembering to take the clip out.

well the new Honda LBJs don't use those clips anymore. my friend at Midas even called Honda to make sure that i wasn't missing those when he pressed in my new ones.
