I never got that much info on it. My friend basically said "sandpaper smooth is ok"... as long as you don't polish to a mirror finish, it should be alright. I haven't done much of my own research here, though... so I'm really just regurgitating what I've been told. My sources are credible, but my own knowledge is limited.

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Heres the site I read it from. Its the 9th paragraph down. Starts with Polishing. http//www.importtuner.com/tech/0703_impp_engine_heads_and_valves/head_work_terms.html. It talks about the terms used when getting headwork done. I found it to be informative.Last edited by kirk90; 12-04-2009, 12:52 AM.

why not just paint it silver alloy? Thats what i did with my manifolds in my 300zx. came out looking like stock, but had a nice shine.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.
You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

all the sensors are taken off already. i'm gunna end up blocking off all of them except the IACV. I am also blocking off the EGR so no need to clean the portsOriginally posted by wed3k View Postrough would be a 320-400 finish or a beadblasted finish.
if you take all the sensors off, you could probably "tank" the upper portion. probably a good time to clean the egr ports as well.2013 Ice Cream Cruise!

Technically, it's not an acid bath if it was used on an aluminum block. The typical acid used in an old school "hot tank" would eat the aluminum alive. I'm not sure what they use, but it's likely just an extremely aggressive solvent, not an acid.Originally posted by deevergote View PostYou might not want to do the upper part.
I believe it's more of an acid bath. I have an H22 block that was tanked. Nice and clean. Well, it was... it's been in my shed, so it's not so nice anymore.

yea, in our hot tank we cant put anything aluminum because it will oxide it in a heartbeat. All aluminum goes in a different washer.Originally posted by LlamaGoblin View PostTechnically, it's not an acid bath if it was used on an aluminum block. one time i accidently put my finger in the hot tank and it burnt the shit out of it. 180 degrees + really harsh solution = bad times.

I'm currently polishing mine...it is hella time consuming too, lots of nooks and crannies.
I am following typeg's methods...search...lotta info...his shit will blow your mind.
I've gotten mine shiny...but mirror finish is what I really want...and I most likely won't get there.
I started with 80 grit and I will work my way to 2000 when done, then more with polishing wheels. I've gotten to 600 grit right now and it looks good (no pics).__
