ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    I've used all 10w30 on my f22a1:

    Castrol syntec
    Royal Purple
    NEO synthetics (currently)

IMO the NEO has been the best one I have used...but $12 a bottle (ouch)

I use 10-40 in winter and if i still have this engine in summer ill switch to 20W50, I live in a very hot climate (it can get to 130 in summer sometimes hotter ) , And my engine burns oil like crazy so if i ran anything thinner i would be buying oil like crazy,
when i get a lower mile engine it will run 10w30 in winter/10w40 in summer , and when i get my old engine rebuilt it will use 5w20 mobile 1

People have seen gains of around 5whp from changing oils. Of course the chance of a 20 year old honda engine seeing a gain of 5whp is slim to none.

The whole idea behind using a heavier oil for an old engine is to bring up the oil pressure. An engine will begin to loose oil pressure as bearings wear. Using a heavier oil or a viscosity builder like STP can extend the life of an engine.

Oil viscosity builders were first used by the German air force in WWII to extend the period between engine rebuilds.

Sure, you could gain some power by changing your oil. If you haven't changed your oil in a long ass time.

I have to admit, even though it has never been proven, that I noticed a better acceleration after an oil change. Hp gain I don't think so. The only thing I personally chock it up to is that as the oil viscosity breaks down you lose a lil bit of engine compression, and once the oil is changed, your compression goes back up. Just my personal observation.

As far as picking up power/speed with an oil change, only a dyno is actually going to prove that.

As far as weight is concerned, it really comes down to the engine. Honda now specifies 0-20 on even their older engines like the f22. Now, while a brand new f22 can benefit from a thin oil like this that can get in all the tight crevices, an older f22, like many of us own, don't have such tight crevices anymore and need a thicker weight oil when it's warm.

A thinner weight will help with startup oil pressure, but it also needs to be thick enough to protect the engine during this cold state. Otherwise, it's still not helping.

I have to run 0-40 Mobile1 synthetic in my Porsche and Mercedes. The Accord, Altima, and Galant get 0-40 Amsoil. The Corvette needs 20-50w because the engine is looser and modded.

10w-40 save me better in fuel economy,no smoke issue & no burnt oil. I will have to say if you have a high mileage engine between 200,000 miles on your car I'll rather start using 10w-40 for thicker oil, because protect your engine really good & dont sprung leaks. Thats my opinion.

A motor is happier with fresh oil in it compared to dark burnt oil. So it can develop the power more adequately. And a higher weight oil does not necessarily mean more resistance.

edit: I use Delo 15w40 every oil change.

I don't know where you would get that from. Mine doesn't burn oil at all. Speaking from knowledge I've gathered while working on people's cars.

no, thicker oil will just seal the cylinders better if your burning oil to begin with.. In genenral, thicker oil usually robs power if anything. Stick to your suggest oil weight which I believe is 5-30 or 10w-30. Go synthetic if you would like to improve*
