ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

Autozone rebuilt power steering pump or Honda one

The hydraulic fluid feed on the top of my power steering pump came loose and I lost a lot of p.s. fluid from it, then when I refilled the system, the p.s. pump failed (due to the lack of fluid, I imagine) and spewed p.s. fluid all over the engine bay. I called Honda and they said it was ok to drive it without the power steering pump, but I'm wondering about other opinions about how that would affect the steering rack.

I'm planning on replacing the pump this week. The Autozone rebuilt power steering pump is $95, Honda rebuilt is $350 or so.

Any thoughts? Compatibility issues? Since you need to use the Honda fluid for the seals in the system, is using an offbrand pump going to somehow mess something up due to seal incompatibility? What other compnents could go wrong due to this (I've been driving it about a week without the pump, about 200 miles)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

autozone one is fine, thats what I'm running w/ my H22 and I rev it to 8k and it works fine. No weird noises or anything of the sort. Plus you get a lifetime warranty on it. And if it ever does fail, it takes all of 10 minutes to remove it anyways.

But that doesn't answer his question.

Honda is always best... but Autozone should work just fine. I would do Autozone myself.

Thanks, guys, I decided to go with the Autozone power steering pump too ($120 before core charge refund) as $200 extra is a lot to pay for something when I'm not even sure of any extra benefit it will provide. Should arrive today and I can install it Thurs AM.

Cool. The good thing is, if it fails, it won't hurt anything. The PS pump is one of those things that I wouldn't mind taking a risk on, because the car is drivable without it, and there's no serious risk of crashing when it fails. Not that I expect the Autozone pump to fail. In all likelihood, it won't. It'll probably outlast the engine it's being bolted to.

Swing for Honda if your looking to spend the dough, but Autozone one works great and seems to hold up fine in every car i've seen. plus they do have a lifetime warranty.

Please read the entire thread before you post. The purchase has been made, and the advice you've given has been repeated a few times already. Such posts are seen as "whoring", and will result in your post count being reset. If you have nothing new to contribute, please refrain from posting.

Heh, turns out I got lazy and didn't replace the PS pump for several weeks due to extremely miserable cold weather and no garage to work in. So since I had the time I decided to swing by the JY and got one from a '93 for $35! Installed, it is working like a charm!!! I think it even is better than my original--I think the steering is easier than it was before (maybe it's maintaining higher pressure or something)! And I saved a cool $100 which is always nice!

Now all I have to do is return the Autozone one... one more errand in my life.

                        Thx to everyone.

                        P.S Props to quickangel93!
