ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Lower ball joint stuck.

    Lower ball joint stuck.

I'm trying to replace my front brake rotors. First I am removing the hub assembly, easier said than done, apparently.

I've got the bolts for the upper, lower, and tie rod ball joints out. A few quick whacks with a hammer freed the ball joints from all but the lower control arm, which remains stuck. I've beat it again and again with an iron hammer, but it's still stuck.

I'm afraid of hitting the ball joint directly as not to damage it, but I'm not sure what to do. Is there a special tool I can rent to help? Some technique I'm unaware of?

i have always used a chiesel between the lower control arm and the knuckle be careful not to hit the boot.
this is easiest if the pinch fork is still attached to the strut.

Apparently the lower ball joints are the hardest to get out. I was reading someones thread about how they removed the lower control arm and set it on fire to remove the joint lol.

      I dont recommend that.

but maybe you can get it pressed out by a shop? idk im doing mine soon and would love to know also.

Place a jack under the hub and jack it up.

Stick a 3/8 drive ratchet or whatever b/w lower control arm and hub. (you can kind of see it on the video, the right of the play button in the middle)

        Lower jack.

Jump up and kick down on the top of the hub.

        Shit should just pop out.

Lol you were only a minute late.

I once spent a whole damn day trying to figure out how to pop the hub out to change an axle. Then I found this video. It's amazing how something that simple can do something I spent a day trying to figure out.

There's a video for everything on youtube.

Well looks like it doesn't matter anymore; the rotors I ordered, which were supposedly specific to my car, are 20mm oversized in the OD.

Don't use the pickle fork separators on any ball joint you want to keep. They will destroy the boot on the Honda joints. There is a specific style separator for Honda joints. But to use it effectively you need an air or electric impact wrench. You can pick up cheap ones at Harbor Freight, or on Amazon.

The easier way, i.e. no additional tools required, is to take your B.M.F.H. and hit the lower arm right where the ball joint goes in. One or two full swings will usually make it jump right out of the socket. The caveat is, you have to hit the arm and not anything else. Do not hit the threads on the ball joint!!! Also, don't try to hammer the joint up, you will just mushroom the threads. Although, I like the way it's done in the video as well, but I haven't tried that. The hammer method will always work. At least on Hondas, I've had to resort to other methods on larger vehicles.

You could avoid the hassel of separting the LCA and buy one of these tools:
                      http://www.amazon.com/Try-Tools-TRYG...2805466&sr=8-2

This tool works wonders. I paid $100 for it on ebay and it pays for itself. You can do your rotors in less then 30mins. I've used it on numerous accords.

Get a toruch, heat on both sides, then get the trusty BFH(big fuckin hammer) after heating it and hit the hell out of it. Best method in my opinion. Fun too.

You don't need the tool. I take a 2x4 block and smack it back on.
