ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Need Direction

I just bought a 90 Ex 4-dr 5 spd. Its totally stock. I have to install a timing belt to get it to pass emissions. I am on a budget and wanting to know if I should turbo the stock engine or swap out for another engine. I'm not looking at putting more than 1 bar of boost. I want it to be a reliable daily driver with as much attitude as I can(performanced wise). Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and I look foward to more of this site.

First off Thomas, welcome to CB7T

There are existing answers to your questions, just search through the forum!

To answer quickly, and this is just my 2 cents, either way you look at it, if you wanna go with a snail you're going to have to do a mild rebuild whether overhauling, or not. Either you keep the F, and boost it low but it normally proves to be more reliable in the long run to pull everything apart and give it a full once-over. It's up to you with how much money you have to put into everything, if you want to swap for an H or F dohc and whatnot. Just hunt and poke around in here, you'll find plenty of other guys have had the same confusion (as have I), and what they did about it. That should give you direction

      Oh, and weee neeed pics

      life is good.

I vote for turbo the head you got to work with is poor flowing so a little boost will kick it in the ass

          hi i think you have the f22a1 or f22a4 because it`s a 90 i would do this
          F22A6 camshaft - $25 (92-93 Accord EX)
          F22A6 ECU - $25
H23A1 intake manifold and throttle body (from a Prelude SI, 92-96 I believe) - $45
F22A6 IAB "black box" (to be able to activate the secondary runners, the intake air bypass, in the H23 manifold) - no price listed... probably $10 or so.
          and read this to http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=88154
and yes you will be able to pass the test to .....

1 bar is 14psi... I wouldn't expect a stock engine to hold up long with that, even tuned properly. Expect to run 6-8psi, 10psi tops... more than that, you're asking for trouble (it's old... it may blow up in 1000 miles with 6psi...)

What does a timing belt have to do with emissions? It's smart to replace the timing belt and water pump anyway... but honestly, the belt itself won't affect emissions. If anything, a valve adjustment will.

Turbo will most likely NOT pass emissions, so you'll have to return it to stock every time you get it inspected (if you ever have to do it again... we do where I live every year or two, depending on the car).

Was something else in the running? I didn't know voting was taking place... seems to me, he's already decided on turbo. Also, the head he has to work with has more potential than anything else we can easily put in our cars (excluding the K series). The exhaust ports are fairly restrictive, but a little porting and the F22A head flows VERY well. Please contain your ignorance... it's not helping anything. A little punctuation would help, too.

Quit whoring, or you're going to be banned from this site. Offer real help, or ask questions, or just don't bother posting.

thanks for the info. this is my first forum so im learning to navigate. the timing belt needs to be replaced due to streching allowing timing to go out of parameter for the emissions.and pics are on the way. its just plain jane maroon right now. but not for long.
