ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    any info?

ok so i have a f22b dohc head that im about to put onto a f22a1 sohc block. is there any special tools i will need? im guessin power tools or air compressed right? i know the head gasket and fluids will need to be replaced. any maitenence info will be great thanks

this has been gone over many times, please search.

first off, why are you swapping to the f22b head? just because it has vtec? the f22b is a horrible head design compared to the f22ax which happens to be the best flowing head honda made until the s2000. vtec on sohc engines is worthless for performance, it was only designed to give better economy.

secondly, when swapping heads, you will need new head bolts (bolts will stretch when they are tightened down, so they are significantly weaker than new ones.) i suggest ARP head studs, but they are not required. you will also need a head gasket (like you said), valve cover gasket set, spark plugs, a new timing belt, timing belt tensioner, and you might as well change out the water pump while you are messing with that stuff. it would also be a good time to change out all the seals in the head, particularly the cam seals.

as for tools, you will need a 14mm and 10mm socket, an extension at least 4-6 inches long, ratchet, a breaker bar (for getting the old head bolts out), and a torque wrench.

dont just slap some random head on there either. it is always best to at least have the head and block inspected by a machinist to see if they are warped or scratched. you will likely end up having to have the block and head decked just a little bit to clean it up and make them each perfectly flat.

well its a non vtec head its the jdm dohc. i blew the block out and had a machinist look already and the head is fine by a miracle. thanks for the tool info but is the swap still pointless?

The swap is pretty straightforward. I'm not positive on the piston design of the F22B, but you may end up with slightly lower compression. Other than that, it should bolt directly on. The blocks are very similar.

Definitely have the head and block inspected, and make sure that they're completely flat.

Don't use power tools. Use proper hand tools, and be sure your torque specs are correct. Also, pay close attention to the tightening pattern.
