ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Automatic "S" button

Does anyone feel any difference with the S button on?

    it revs higher before shifting.

It revs higher under partial load. You should shift at or near redline at full throttle regardless.

It's a pretty useless option, which is why they did away with it for the 92-93 models.

            It changes shift points.

It increases the shift point and allows your car to rev higher or hold a higher rev to assist with more sustained accelaration in a gear (trading economy for perfomance hence the name "S" sports mode).

As opposed to shifting through gears quicker to achieve highest gear as quick as possible for Economy.

Its an advance feature - similar system to BMW's Adaptive Transmission control see http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e34/spe...ive_trans.html - later deleted due to costs and being misunderstood as a gimmick (like Vtec was when first introduced).

A bit of a let down for some as Sports conjures too much of an increased expectation and does not give a boost like turbo.

It was later superseeded with honda going for trip tronic (only) rather than a similar system to Subarus "SI Drive" (though this had 3 modes rather than 2 - being Sports, Sports Sharp and Normal) or offering both like in the newer Subarus and BMWs.

I disagree that it was useless - I think it was an advanced feature unfortunately (like Vtec) was unappreciated. It was a rare feature offered to a car in that era where alot where still on 3 speeds! To have a 4 speed varying mode electronic transmissions was more than what majority of people could comprehend.

Like Vtec a time when Fuel injection was new, people were sceptic and didnt understand how EFI worked compared to Carburettors let alone what multi valve did and difference between single cam and twin cam benefits. So naturally when they saw Vtec and valve technology it all went over their heads.

Sports mode Transmission was way ahead in advancement to be appreciated and offered too low (accord mum and dads) in the car market & not just sports cars (and M3 Version of the Accord or Accord SIR as none existed for that market where people are more knowledgabe and appreciative). Hence why now they do have Accord Type R or Euro R because of this marketing error.

"S" sports mode does have a purpose.

All i can say is that it gives a jerk when accelarating.....I have auto and usually without the s, it revs only up to 2-3000rpm every gear, once i put sportsmode on, it revs to 4000rpm-5000rpm...Depends how much you press on the pedal and also the situation your in...So far i can feel a huge difference..I tried one day using d4 with sports mod using on 10 dollars on fuel since right now 105.8 per liter in B.C. I drove got only 250km....WIthout the s mode i got 286km...So i think you get a huge adavantage, but you lose gas, i prefer using on uphill senario....

                s light sport mode

i never use my sport mode, i turn it one once in a while to see if i can tell a diff between them but i dont. honestly i can drive my car hard and get it to 5500 rpm's without the sport mode, and its bone stock motor, last night i got up to 90 in d4 no problem and no sport mode and had the pedal on the floor, at top rpm of 5500. i cant drive too fast cuz i got bad cv's but once i get those fixed and some suspension im hittin the back roads. ill keep updating my posting when i find a diff between sport mode and regular, im sure there iis just havent found it

At full throttle, it will redline regardless of sport mode. Sport mode will only change the shift points at partial throttle.

The only real use I can see for it is driving up hills... so your car doesn't bog down when it shifts to a higher gear.
