ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

    JDM f22a again

So I was getting parts lined up for my f22 rebuild and stumbled across a jdm f22a with auto, 35000 miles for under 800 bucks. My current 280000 smoker is the a1 version so that right there is an upgrade. It comes with an auto Which means Ill have a spare for the wifes 93 if it ever goes out. And the cheepest I had come up with was around 1100 for a basic rebuild on my current f22a1. Am I missing something or should I just jump on it? Im not sure if it comes with the ecu but thats no big deal. They arent that hard to find. Im not finding to many reasons to pass on it.

Get the F22A , but do carefully check it first.

I love how these JDM engines have had 35,000 miles on them since I've been into this scene... 2001.

If it really has 35,000 miles, chances are it's been sitting out of the car for 10 years or more. An engine that sits unused and dry for that long may be in need of a rebuild itself.
It may be good, it may be garbage.

What are they supposed to have for cranking compression? Ill call them later today and see if they checked it. For the price it seems like a good deal. Hopefully its close to as good as it sounds.

If its been stored in a dry storage area (indoor warehouse) after removal from the car wouldnt it still be ok? Would it not likely rust badly when left exposed to the elements like rain that will it rust badly.

The cylinder walls may get surface rust but how much air and moisture can you actually get in the cylinders really?

Im interested because i have a car (a rare honda) which i have kept under cover and a car cover also but have not used in like 4 to 5 or even 6 years!

Will that car likely need a rebuild? Prior to being stored it was my daily and had religiously serviced it through and through. Actually it had new oil prior to being temporarily decomissioned. I plan to use it again sometime but not for another year or two.

How does Honda store new replacement engines? Would they not be succeptible to the same conditions unless its air conditioned?

Ill have to pull out my notes but off of the top of my head for 700 or so is what I had been able to comeup with for just the rebuild kit(ebay $300) and machine work $400. I wasnt super excited about the ebay kit even though he was a 100% seller at 35,000 or so. Plus the $400 for machine work was to polish the crank, bore the block and basic valve job and surface. If the crank needs to be ground (280,000 miles on it) thats more and if it needs guides in the head (again 280,000) then it could way up from there.
My point is that after all of that I still have a cheap built f22a1. It may be fresh but its still a a1 motor. If I go with the Jdm motor, tear it all down and replace all the gaskets seals, and belts, check the cylinders, valves and crank at least I have a low milage motor to start with that is most likely not as worn as the one I have now. Plus its got the better intake, cam and exhaust for roughly the same price. Kind of a no brainer.
So out of the JDM places out there First off which ones should I avoid. Where are the good ones. Thanks.

There is a flat area to the left of your exhaust manifold, on the front of your engine block. It will be stamped with the engine code.

If you have a 90-93 LX or DX, it's an F22A1. If you have a 90-91 EX, it's an F22A4. If you have a 92-93 EX, it's an F22A6. If you have an SE (91 or 93) it's an F22A6.

The F22A (no number) is a Japanese engine, assumed to be identical (or nearly identical) to the F22A6. Japanese engines NEVER have numbers after them.

Check wikipedia for Honda F Engine. It gives them all in pretty good detail, and to my knowledge, they're all correct.

thanks for the answer... well i did check and it turns out to be that i have a
F22A which is Japanese, right? so when im looking for parts i should really be asking for A6 parts too, right? what would be the difference between JDM and USDM? more power, torque, etc...?

Only difference with JDM F22's is the compression and the requirement of 95 octane....
However some people seem to think octane is not the same everywhere

I have done a number of engine swaps over the years doing jdm spec engines. I have never had any problems with different octanes of fuel. As a general rule of thumb, if an engine has compression of 10.1:1 or higher, i use premium. Otherwise, if it's a lower comp design, you should be ok with regular gasoline.

Every place that I have looked lists the f22a as 8.8-1 just like the us versions.

U could get an H22A auto swap w/the ECU for like $1100....
