ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

I assume that your check engine light is on... that will tell you what is malfunctioning. You just need to jump the service connector under the dash (to the right of the passenger footwell), turn the key to the II position, and count the flashes. There are detailed instructions and a breakdown of all the codes in the "sticky" threads in the regular Technical forum.

First, start with the basics. Tune up items, such as spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, etc. Maintenance is key for any vehicle to survive. Judging on how the car has 208k on it and has never had the fuel filter changed(should be done every 30k or so) I'd say that would be a good place to start. Check your spark plugs, make sure they aren't gunked up, caked, or excessively worn. Check the distributor cap and rotor, make sure there isn't excessive buildup on the contact points on the inside or on the tab of the rotor. Make certain your plugwires function as intended, and doublecheck the ignition timing.

If all of those are a bust, do a compression check and go from there.

Also, if ANY check engine light or codes are present, RECTIFY THOSE FIRST!

      Hope that helps.

Does your check engine light come on briefly when you start the car? it should. Your bulb may have burned out.

Ok, then anything associated with the CEL can be ruled out, most likely.

Take h22cb719's advice, and we'll go from there. Even if those things don't fix the problem, they're good to do anyway.

Exhaust manifold. My brothers cb7 sounds like a tractor with a rusted out exhaust manifold.

If it's really loud, that's definitely a possibility. A significant hole in the exhaust manifold could cause performance issues as well.

Other possibility is if the catalytic converter is clogged. I don't think that would throw a CEL.

It would probably result in the o2 sensor being ruined pretty quickly, which would result in a code... but if this is a fairly new issue, then that may not have happened yet. So the cat is certainly a possibility.

If you can take video of what your car is doing, that would be a great help.
