ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Yeah that looks like what it is to me too, some sort of sludge shit. I've never removed a head, how long does that take? And what do u use to clean it out?

Well i dunno if youve used seafoam before , but i heard that sometimes it can disolve the seals in youre block ... plus it looks like a four alarm fires worth of smoke is shooting out of your muffler i would def pull the head and clean it all out real good if youre not to sure of what it is

Seafoam is meant to clean out your intake manifold mostly, it wont have any effect on internal engine areas like under the valve cover (although seafoam may remove a small amount of deposits from within the actual combustion chamber). All that "junk" is just engine oil sludge which normally accumulates over time (although can accumulate alot quicker, if the owner gets lazy on their oil changes). Using really cheap oils (which contain less additives) and/or conventional oil also contributes to sludge build up quicker (synthetic oil is made up of uniform hydrocarbon chains, and generally does not contain as many "bad" chains of hydrocarbons which form sludge easier).

The only real effective way to remove all that sludge would be to remove the cylinder head and have it hot-tanked (or acid washed, whatever you like to call it). Or if your on a budget, you can remove the cylinder head and scrape it out and use brake-clean or carb-clean to wash away the remaining sludge. I wouldnt reccomend trying to scrape away the sludge with the cylinder head still on the engine, because the little chunks you cant pick out will eventually get circulated around the oiling system and can clog small passage ways.

They also sell engine oil "flush" kits, that you add to your engine oil, which supposably loosens up sludge and deposits, and removes them. Only problem is all that sludge has to go somewhere, and will most likely clog your oil filter or get stuck on the way. I wouldnt reccomend any "mechanic in a bottle" type fixes. Your best bet is to remove the head and go from there, but if its not causing any problems (yet) it may not be worth your time.

Yeah I will put oil back in it and pour seafoam in the crankcase and then do an oil change. Hopefully it'll get that sludge up outta there.

I hope your being sarcastic because that's not a good idea. I believe seafoam does state on the back of the can that you can add it to engine oil, but whatever sludge is removed is not going to magically dissapear, its going to end up in your oil filter or anywhere in the oiling system before the oil filter, therefore I would not reccomend it.

By the looks of the picture your engine seems to have alot of miles on it, I wouldnt worry about the sludge for now, it may cause more harm trying to get rid of it, than to just let it be at this point. Your best bet at this point would just be to focus on doing regular oil changes, and wait for a future engine rebuild to get rid of that sludge since there is so much there already.

Looks like oil sludge from not changing the oil in awhile.

do an oil change. put 3 2/3 oil and the rest kerosene. run the car for a few min. change the oil, drive for 500 miles. then change the oil again.... that should clean it up really good. then check if it is metal shavings in there or if it just sludge
are we there yet are we there yet are we there yet

Truthfully, If I were you, I'd drop the oil pan and inspect the crank case. Its possible the bottom end might look the same way, and possibly have metal.
