ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    No Reverse

I bought my gf a 91 cb at the beginning of this past winter for 340...the only problem is it wont go into reverse. Its an auto btw, it makes a grinding type noise, but it never goes in. Other than the tranny just being shot what could it be?
I want to try flushing the tranny, does anyone think it will help.
Any advice at all would be great, if i can fix this problem without replacing the tranny it would be great seeing as i have a 6mth old and no money.

    I hate fucking auto trannys

you can try to flush the system, but honestly reverse will still be fcuked, gotta get another tranny.

Make sure the shift cable is adjust correctly...
A magnetic drain plug and new fluid could bring it back to life...
But when my tranny blew it worked great until it warmed up

Does it shift fine in all the forward gears? It could be someone was driving and put it in R while they were cruising? Maybe attempting a burnout?

How about when it goes into drive? Does it kaboom into drive?
If no ones touched the shift cable, I dont think this would cause this.
Can you halfway wiggle the shifter around in R and see if you can get it to engage? Kinda like pull it halfway from P to R then to N

Ive seen people drive along time (Fords mainly) with Reverse blown automatics.

It doesnt make a kaboom noise, but it def does make a noise.
I have tried wiggling the shifter and it wont catch at all, thats why its kinda weird to me, cuz on my cb i got 2 gears that have been grinding for 5+ years and its always engaged.
If i go from P to R to N it just makes a grinding noise.
I kinda think it may be a cable tho cuz about 8/10 times when i put it into park the lock on in the ignition wont let the key out.

            idk...

Oh, well that might be it....
Let me guess, your key doesnt come out when the P light is off?
              I had that problem too...

Does the R light come on when you shift it to reverse?

The transmission computer uses the PRND4...etc lights to tell it when your in the correct gear position.
My Automatic will do the same thing when the R light isnt on, kinda free floats then goes in.

Although it does sound blown up.
I remember when I blew mine, it had a grinding noise, but in every gear, I just couldnt drive.

P lights up and so does R. the only thing that does is d4, but it goes threw the drive gears fine.
i guess ill see what happens im going to flush the tranny today, and try to manually shift it with the shift linkage

No, dont manually shift the tranny, start saving money for a tranny swap lol
Just push it to back it up.

The tranny already sounds blown, shifting it manually will totally blow it.
Let us know what the fluid looks like.
Also, I tell everyone this, get a magnetic drainplug.

so yesterday i finally had time to do the tranny and then i ran into a problem. The drain plug was starting to strip where the ratchet goes in. So i didnt get to do anything. Any ideas to get it out? Its in there too tight to use pliers.

Im really starting to hate this car. im tempted to just strip it for my cb and sell the rest.
