ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

PS Rack leak on drvr side..?

So I knew there was a small leak in the power steering rack on the driver side right where the hose meets the boot. Looks like its MUCH worse then the last time I looked at it beginning of January.

Can I just replace the boot/hose or am I F*ed into buying a whole new rack?
How long of a DIY job would it be?

That all I need? Any special tools?

yeah, its probably the inner seal that's failed. The boot does nothing but keep the dust out. Its not really a hydrolic seal so you can't expect it to fix the problem. I would just buy a remanufactured Rack and Pinion from Napa or something and might as well get new outer tierods. The new R&P comes with new inner tierods. I think I paid 218 with a core and then about 25 for each outer tierod, L&R.

I remember mine all of a sudden started gushing PS fluid out one morning when going to class....that's pretty much when I knew I HAD to do it. But if yours is leaking to the point of you having to fill the reservoir every 2 weeks or so, Replace it. PS Fluid is like 4 bucks a quart, not the cheapest fluid out there.

It took me about 10 hrs to do it. Its kinda an involved process. And you'll be on your back for most of it, meaning you'll be sore the next day. You also have to disconnect the Steering rack from R&P so that can be tricky, you'll have to contort yourself into that little area. Not recommended if you're a big guy with fat fingers. You'll also need special line wrenches to disconnect the PS lines, 12,14 and 17 I believe. And make sure you count the number of turns on each tierod when you remove them so you're alignment won't be totally off. Also, if you have a 92-93 CB7 with an airbag, extra care has to be taken not to spin the steering wheel too much, otherwise you'll mess up the SRS system's clock spring. Also, your downpipe will have to come off. Its nearly impossible to take off the rack w/ it on there. I would dedicated at least a FULL day for this job, having the parts ready before hand.

    So on a scale of 1-10, its about a 7 I'd think.
