ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Fuel Octane Level Effects Over Long Periods

Lets say if you put the highest pump octane for 10 years (around 94) in the CB versus the lowest (87) what kind of effects have you guys experienced? My CB9 been runnning 91 since 96' and it's running perfectly fine with no major problems like bad tranny and such. It's also an auto.

I was just wondering as the CB7 is rated for 86 octane minimum on the pump. What have you guys experienced after putting a single octane for a long period of time?

Since the burn rate of higher octane fuel is slower, wont that (over time) cause long term pre-ignition/combustion problems? Resulting in cylinder/piston damage? And vise- versa, like running 87 ocatane in a ferrari... Or is it all performance related...?

For an engine designed for lower octane, higher octane does absolutely nothing but waste your money. It MAY cause damage as eazyduzit509 says... though I don't know quite enough to confirm that.

Modern cars that "require" higher octane fuel today CAN be run on lower octane... but the ECU is programmed to compensate for it. That won't harm them, because the engineers planned for it.

Old cars like ours should be run on the fuel that they were designed for.

Would you feed your baby lobster and filet mignon instead of breastmilk and strained peas, just because the fancy meats are "better"?

Hey hey guys geeze, it's my dad's old car so yes he put 91 in it since 1996. And yes I do have my license, I'd had it for almost 2 years now, full for a couple months. It's not that big of a deal...

I guess I'll put 87 in it then from now on.

It really doesn't matter... but you get no benefit from premium.
