ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

What do you guys think?
Sounds good but i would list out what i would want to get changed as a minimum and then ask the mechanic what in his opinion should be left unchanged (before the engine is closed).

Eg. If you think the water pump and front seal should be changed (and would make you feel better if it was) but in his opinion they can stay, then before he closes the engine i would overide his decision and say i would like them changed.

That way you know exactly what has been changed and what has not and still have the opportunity to concur or alter the course of his decisions.

Any knowledgable Honda Technician would absolutely, without question replace the o-rings under the rocker arm assembly, adjust the valves, since that is a requirement after removing the rocker arm assembly. Also, should be done whenever the timing belt is replaced, as this is part of the 90K service, which is most comonly sold as a "T-belt and 90" I cut my teeth on these cars, as I started as a technician for Honda in '96, when I was 18, and am still at it today. I've literrally done thousands of timing belts. I HIGHLY recommend that you get the front balancer shaft seal replaced, install a balancer shaft seal retainer bracket if one isn't already installed, as these F engines like to pop those out! the cam seal replaced, the crank seal replaced, and also the o-ring behind the rear balancer shaft/Oil pump gearset. AND the waterpump. If your mechanic refuses to do these things, he is just going to charge you the same labor to go into it again later, and theres a better than average chance that he's going to have to. It's been a while since all these procedures were a daily occurence for me, but I used to charge 7.0 hours for all of this, which includes a valve adjustment, coolant flush, and replacing the lower rocker arm o-rings. By the way, the cam DOES NOT need to be removed to change the rocker arm o-rings, that's going WAY out of the way. The upper spark plug well seals should be replaced every time you remove the valve cover gasket. as a rule of thumb, if you're replacing the valve cover gasket, those upper seals need to be replaced too. It's expensive, but I think some of the more experienced guys, and some of the more OCD guys on here would agree with me when I say it's the only way to do it right, and potentially save yourself some money and headaches in the long (or even short) run. It's 5.5 more hours to go back in and replace a seal you chose not to replace. same thing for a leaky waterpump, or anything else that would require the timing belt to be removed.

      Hope I have helped you!

I recently had this same problem, like only 3 weeks ago. I went to autozone, and got a VCG kit and it came with everything. And Yea my problem was the upper o ring gaskets failed on my #2 and #3 cylinder and were leaking oil on top of the sparkplugs and got up inside my plug wires. Autozone was reallllllly nice and replaced my plug wires free of charge cuz I had lifetime warrenty on them even though the warrenty didnt cover gasket failure.

I was thinking of trying one of the diy's about the tube seals bu not sure. I did my im swap and I swap and adjust electric motors on air handlers. I'm no car mechanic but I have good general mechanic skills if that makes sence. I'll need to make sure they both get changed then I guess. It sucks cuz I don't know anyone with any knowlAge that can help. Just a friend who will take orders, on the plus side he knows the names of most tools I'd ask for lol.
