I have lurked for about a year now. Its seems that the overwhelming stance on ECU tuning for the f22A6 is basically non existent or not worth while unless you have heavy modification. I was also running midgrade fuel for a while until i read some posts here on the topic and several people suggested that the motor has really retarted (heh) timing until higher RPM's. so the question is this, who has fooled with their timing and can you adjust it manually w/o the ecu compensating?

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Any benefit to advancing the timing

You can manually change ignition timing in moving distributor base. However, that ignition timing is changed throughout engine RPM range for all conditions and not controlled as it would be using an EMS.
Some members have fooled around advancing 2 degrees via distributor. You can ask them, what they think about it.

i had my timing advanced 2 degress when i had my single cam a6, but lets just say a while after that is why i have an h22 now.

Indeed, advancing the timing on a stock F22 engine will most certainly destroy it after a few weeks. Why are you looking to advance it in the first place?Fix your Computer!

I ran mine 2* advanced for over a year. The bottom end was a tad stronger, but seemed to lose steam quicker in the top end. Two degrees of advance isn't going to blow up your motor, and, in-fact, it's within factory specs, which are 15* +/- 2 degrees.Last edited by foamypirate; 06-17-2010, 12:03 PM.Originally posted by sweet91accordif aredy time i need to put something in cb7tuner. you guy need to me a smart ass about and bust on my spelling, gramar and shit like that in so sorry.

If you want to advance your timing you need to also switch to a higher octane gas. Then listen closely for spark knock (ping) when you lug the engine. (hard to do with an auto because they will downshift to avoid lugging)
Advancing timing from factory setting is pretty stupid unless you are willing to pay for higher octane gas..

I ran 17* on 87 octane for over a year, no issues, no pinging, motor is still healthy, doesn't burn any oil, and is quite strong. I don't do it now, simply because I prefer more pull on the top end, and I get better fuel economy at 15*.Originally posted by dano28 View PostIf you want to advance your timing you need to also switch to a higher octane gas. I'm still curious why you would want to risk something like that though. It may be within specs and all, but it seems to me like advancing the timing would add extra wear to the parts involved. I mean, we're not talking about race engines here. These are stock F22's we're talking about. I can see getting a delta regrind to allow the valves to stay open a little longer for extra 'oomph' but opening the valves before optimal intake/outtake?
I'm not knocking you Foamy, I just don't understand the logic behind advancing the timing.Fix your Computer!

We aren't talking about physical cam-to-crank timing, we are talking about advancing the ignition timing at the distributor. It simply fires the spark plug 2* sooner, that's all.Originally posted by Masamune View PostI'm still curious why you would want to risk something like that though. 2* advance... not dangerous at all.
No need to switch to higher octane either unless you are towing something with your Accord.
Turn the distributor all the way and see how you like it.
If you don't like it, it takes a 12mm wrench and about 60seconds to set it back to 15* (just set it right in the middle)

So, it sounds like it adds wear to the engine and improves bottom end at the expense of top end (based on one person's experience).
To answer most of you asking why, i just though it might be a reasonably safe way to increase power slightly. I had heard that Honda was overly Conservative in terms of stock timing on the f22a.
as an example I believe some people use the Prelude ECU that came with the F series for F22a1/a4's cause it has more aggressive timeing, but lacks the ability to control the butterflies (so not a good option for the A6)... so it didn't seem that crazy.
I'm convinced its not worth the risk! thanks guys.
