ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

doesnt look like it. no change when i unplug any of the plug wires. im guessing that i fixed the cylinder 3 issue when i swapped the injector

i installed a remanufactured distributor this morning. no change. thank god i work at a parts house so i can return it. it was $190

my $12 timing gun is trash (big surprise there) so i cant check timing properly yet. guess i need to get a better gun and check timing right?

its been a while since i changed my fuel filter. but theres no way that a filter could cause this issue right in teh middle of driving, right?

timing off by a couple degrees wont produce a misfire though. fuel problems are usually progressive.

when it misses, does the tach go in sync with the mis? this usually indicates an ignition misfire but not all the time.

at your parts store, they sell a spark tester. pop one of those on and check spark at each and every cylinder. it should be very rhythmic. recheck the spark plugs again, if it was runing really rich it may have fouled some plugs.

i say check the mechanical timing, its pretty easy and it isnt very intrusive (just need to take the top cover off)

yea, the tach is dropping and raising constantly.

just checked the timing on the flywheel and its way off. the circle(s) are not in view. i even advanced the timing light 99.9(whatever that actually means on this specific light) and still couldnt see the circle(s). it wouldnt let me retard the timing light. with the car in open loop mode that means a sensor is not affecting the timing and means the timing belt is just way off right?

is the spark tester called a diode or zoid tester or some shiz like that? weirdly named.

ive got brand new plugs in it. like only 3 days old.

and ive got the top timing cover off already from checking the timing belt. guess ill search up how to check mechanical timing now. unless u wanna give me a fast lesson on it

and thanks for your continued responses wed3k

it doesnt meant he sensor is affecting timing, it means the o2 doesnt affect injector pulse width aka fuel.

i tihnk the timing belt may be off if you cant adjust the timing via distributor.

Unsopported Theory/Wild Ass Guess: your crankshaft pulley outer ring separated or loosened from the inner ring when you accellerated, which affected the mechanical timing via the timing belt and resulted in instant bad running.

Checking mechanical timing just means making sure the camshaft pulleys and the crankshaft pulleys are aligned correctly, as in when you do a timing belt job.
There are marks on both sets of pulleys and they need to be spot on. If you pull the upper timing belt cover and take off the driver's side wheel you should be able to see the marks on both. Actually, you'll only be able to see the crankshaft accessory pulley without pulling the lower timing cover but there are marks on it so I think that will work.

In the absence of marks on the lower pulley, or if you are unable to see them for some reason, it is also possible to verify the timing belt alignment by using a dead stop in the number one spark plug hole to determine exact TDC for the #1 cylinder and then looking at the camshaft pulleys but if you want to know more about that method you can search for "dead stop" in my posts as I have posted fairly detailed instructions elsewhere.

.....i replaced my crank pulley 2 days before all this happened. it had worked its way loose. i rethreaded and cleaned the crank end best i could. globbed red threadlocker on a new crank pulley bolt and tightened it down.

have you checked or verified that it is not your ECU? It is possible that one of the injector drivers in the ecu may be dead.
