ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Slow Acceleration When Ac Is On

What's up cbtuner...I wanna know if this normal or not everytime I turn on the AC my car will accelerate real slow like it just lost power but when its off it accelerate fine with no problem...the car has 170xxx its an automatic sedan se model 1993

That's normal. The Aircon uses a compressor that runs off the engine, and it takes a decent amount of power to run it. If I had to guess, I'd say the car feels like it loses 20-30hp when the AC is turned on. You really have to boot it to get anywhere, which is why I only use my AC once I'm up and moving. I'm considering wiring up an interrupt switch to my throttle to turn off the AC at full throttle.

Your gas mileage will also drop when the AC is turned on. Turning the AC on can also make for decent traction control in the rain/snow.

Yikes! my car definitely doesn't feel like it looses 20 to 30 hp when its on. Are you guys running autos? Mines a manual. I read somewhere that its 10-15 hp for a generic AC compressor, i'm guessing that means small sedan.

I don't know alot about AC systems so i'm hesitant to say that there is something that could cause it to drag more then a healthy system, maybe someone will chime in and educate us. Do you hear a lot of noise from your compressor with the AC on?

It definitely does drain some power, even my H22 engine suffers from this and its a 5spd. But I'm not sacrificing my AC, especially during AZ summers.

Just don't race around when your AC is on and you'll be okay lol

Mine isn't too bad when it's on. It is noticeable though. A/C is over rated anyhow...just drive fast with the windows down!
