ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Take it to a shop and have them grease all the front end components that need it. That'd be one place to start. Or have someone look underneath while you turn the wheel and pinpoint the squeak.

On our cars, there are no grease fittings, its all sealed.

To grease the ball joints, tie rod ends etc. you have to disassemble them and fill the boots, reinstall or replace the boots, reassemble and then clean off the mess when your done.

Or you can use a "needle kit," as simple as I sounds... a syringe with a fine needle to pierce the boot and fill it, then when you pull the needle out it will semi-seal itself being soft rubber. Only drawback to this method is it may seep a little bit over time.

Third option is to just replace the ball joints and tie rod ends. On cars this old, and most with very high miles, it's just good insurance too.

As far as the pivot points such as the upper control arms bolt in, you can get spray cans of. White lithiun grease or graphite lube. Although these should not need to be lubricated as they are a press fit once tightened down, they technically have no moving parts. The flex come from the rubber which is bonded between the sleeve that the bolt goes through and the body anchor. If they are squeaking, they have cracked and pulled away from the metal. The lube may help, just masking a bigger problem temporarily.

Same with the bolts going through the bottom of the strut forks and where the lower control arm pivots on the subframe.

Don't forget to check the swaybar bushings also.

If it's just while turning the wheels, it may be the steering rack and/or the joint from the steering column and associated boots.

OK I need to stop typing, I'm done lol

The title of this thread reminds me of those old Car-X commercials..

                  "Rattle, rattle, rattle
                  thunder, clatter, boom-boom-boom.
Dont worry, call the Car-X man."

have a freind sit in the car and turn the steering back and forth and squat down and listen for the squeek it is a bad ball joint ,put your hand on the joint that is making the noise and you will feel the squeek .........

Also, it could be power steering. Put the front on jackstands, take off the wheels, start the engine, put it in neutral and kill the engine, turn back and forth with no power assist, have a friend listen for the squeak on each side without the engine noise distraction.

And you're probably better off replacing joints rather than refilling/replacing boots. It's not like our parts are expensive.

well it squeaks if i kill the engine and turn the wheel a bit, and when braking. Not squeak of bad breaks but when the front end dives/bounces back up a bit it squeaks.
