ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

I dunno...impact wrenches typically have a rating of around 200-250 ftlbs. If you could find one that's lower around 150 i GUESS you could, but get that tool and try to wedge it. When my dad and I replaced the clutch in his Mustang we had to get the main clutch bolts to around 110 ftlbs and that was a BITCH! But we found a way to wedge the clutch. Try putting it in park too? And hell if you do take it to the stealership, they might even check other shit around there and find something else wrong (which is more money, but at least you won't get stranded)

absolutely, use your impact wrench. You don't need that tool to loosen (usually) or tighten that pulley bolt if you have an impact wrench

Or, you can take a bunch of nylon rope and stuff it into one of the spark plug holes to stop the psiton moving, , then use your torque wrench.

note: you are supposed to put a drop or two of oil on the threads of the bolt, but not on the surface of the bolt washer, then torque to 165 ft-lbs. If you're using an impact wrench, you'll have to guesstimate on the torque. If the tool is srated for 250 fl-lbs then get out your calculator and figure out what 165/250 is and dial that in as the variable power setting for your tool. Not super accurate but it works. Alternately, regulate your power supply by the same fraction : (165/250)* 90 psi should do it if your tool is rated at 250 ft lbs at 90 psi.

I would tend to want to err on the overtightening side for this bolt. Whatever happens, you aren't going to strip it. It's too big.

oh and i just read somewhere about a "starter trick"??? anyone that knows what this is, good idea or bad?
starter trick is grounding a breaker bar that is attached to the crank pulley bolt,, then gunning the starter for a second. On our cars that will tighten the crank pulley bolt. A LOT. or break your tool. Make sure no one is standing around when you do it.

On most other cars, the starter trick will loosen the crank pulley bolt. But not an an Accord motor,--it will tighten it. A LOT.

Use an impact wrench to take the pulley off. The rubber on the inside of it probably seperated. I can't believe that wasn't post number two.

how old is your crank pulley? it could be bad. they can wiggle when they go bad.

if it is in fact a loose pulley bolt, you should probably pull it out before you go and try to tighten it and check the threads. after rebuilding my motor my pulley bolt backed out 8 months later and messed up the threads pretty bad. i got lucky and was able to rethread it.
and you are going to mess with that pulley's bolt you should pick up one of these first.

                ^crank pulley tool^

when you go to tighten it, realize that it has one of the highest torque specs of the entire car, somewhere around 160-180 foot pounds, maybe someone else can chime in witht the actual specs
we dont have harmonic balancers. thats why we have balance shafts.

You and me both. I guess not many people realize our crank pulleys have the rubber dampener inbetween.

BTW, the crank pulley rubber separated on my sister's 91 SE automatic with about 290K miles at an intersection. Her battery light came on, stayed on as the alternator stopped charging.
