ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Trouble starting

Here's the deal. My car either starts up immediately or it's a major PITA to get going. Monday It'd start, but then stall out. I turned the key on/off 10-15 times and it'd do the same thing. I pulled the ECU fuse for 15 sec or so and then it started.

Today, same thing. Pulled the fuse but this time it didn't make a difference. Eventually I got it started but... wtf?!

Any ideas? Spark plugs? Wires? Distributor?

i had the same issue a while back, and it was the dizzy.
but i had ruled it out completley because i had just changed the igniter and figured it was fine. so after a few days of fighting it, i threw on a spare dizzy that i had laying around. and it started right up.

so just do what you can to rule things out. like change dizzy, make sure its getting fuel, pull a junkyard main relay and throw it in, borrow a freinds ecu. easy stuff.

i would replace all the easy things that could be the culprit right off the bat
        1. plugs
        2.wires
        3.dizzy

if thats not the problem its most likely a fuel issue
You don't have to like what he did, but I would hope that you can appreciate the time, money and love that went in to the build. If you can't, you're not really an enthusiast, just another dumb kid with a car.-visualpoet

What's the first thing I should try? I'm thinking coil or distributor but... yeah they're pricy.

before you start buying parts and throwing your money around recklessly, go buy a multimeter and check to see if the component is bad before replacing it. i bought a multimeter for $5. any part you replace inside the distributor will cost 10x that easily. just a fyi if you change the whole distributor you will have to reset your timing, which can be difficult for some people.
